Blimey , I also live in Eastbourne and my 340 has a rattling noise from the prop shaft as well. My 1st piece of advice is don't take it to Nationwide Autos on Lotteridge drove as they'll probably make a complete balls up of it like they did with mine. I've had my 340 for 18 months and I had to have ...

Well, I left her standing 24 hours then tested the fuel pump by taking the fuel line off the carb and putting the end in a jam jar and turned the engine over. The result was the same as when I tested it yesterday afternoon a decent amount of fuel in the jar. When i put the fuel line back on the carb ...

Since I 1st posted with this problem. The car passed its MOT with only £61 work needed :D . The bad news is the starting problems resurfaced over the last 2 weeks :( . with the car failing to start on 4 occasions in the last 10 days. Each time fuel down the carb has got it going but often after a co...

My wife does'nt drive and does'nt know much about cars although she can reconize cars her parents had (Cortina, Triumph Dolomite etc) When we got the 340 she was initially impressed because she could tell people we had moved up from a Micra to a Volvo. However after a couple of breakdowns all of whi...

The Volvo Breakers I normally use in East Sussex only had one 300 series which was so jammed in amongst 440's i could'nt tell you any more more about it. On my last visit a couple of weeks ago It had gone and the owner basically said there's not enough demand for 340/360 spares so they don't stock t...

Won't start - electronic ignition module

Tried to start my 1.4 340 on Friday morning and had no joy I just ran the battery flat. A friend came over saturday and tried jump starting it with his Morris Minor but again it would'nt start evn though the starter turned over at full speed. We checked to see if the engine was sparking and it was a...

Finally went to my regular garage on Wednesdayand had the mounts looked at . I was told they are fine but front tyres were a different matter one was very bald the other was damaged due to being bumped up the kerb. After the front tyres were replaced i went for a test drive and got up to about 85 mp...

Will the engine need to be taken out to sort this out ?, I know i could probably answer this question by looking in the haynes manual but I can't find the damn thing at the moment . I will have to get this done at the garage so I'd like to know if the mechanic would be pulling a fast one if he says ...

Maybe this explains all the problems i've had with the propshaft , also the garage said the exhast is a bit loose so these problems must stem from the engine mountings (?).

Engine mountings worn / loose

Had a free full service done on Monday courtesy of the garage who made a hash of replacing the clutch and knackering the prop shaft last year, Had some misgivings about letting them near the car after last time but its too late now. They gave me a service report afterwards showing areas that needed ...

(its a 1.4 and needs a service so fuel ecomony is'nt that great ) Secondly some point in the future I may buy a second 340/360 when my wife learns to dr...
