Excellent work Mac! Hopefully well be getting results back from the 'field test' units soon, but it all looks good.

Nice find! There's a YouTube video on how to both remove and refit the cambelt. The bloke appears to almost know what he's doing!

Re: Carbs in bitz

Excellent work, and fantastic pics. That truly is a labour of love. Several months work straight away! One request though, can you say which cars these carbs were put onto? These first two are for the B14 I believe but fairly early? The early model years are a bit of a mystery to me :) Just a thought.

Re: Fail car

Rear light issue is the earth bar in the cluster. The earth for the combined stop/tail light bulb isn't working and its finding its ground through the other bulb.Just give the contact a good clean and all should be well. The other stuff i'm not sure. When the resistor pack fails, usually all speeds ...

Re: Damn that blower gone again.

This sounds very interesting. You've been doing great work Mac. I have a couple of thoughts too. All the 'bench' testing was done with the motor inside the housing, but out in the open air. The inlet to the air box and the outlet were both unrestricted. When they're installed in the car, you've got ...

Re: correct lubes for trans+final drive

Holy thread bump! ATF A/A is the best way to go, but its all been superceded by the Dexron types, so really any of those DII or DIII etc will work fine. Really the spec for ATF is just to ensure constant viscosity across a wide temperature range, rather than using the additive packs for all the vari...

Fantastic work Mac! Only a matter of time before you find a solution to this problem.

Re: Bendy carburettors

Trouble is that many people don't see the bigger picture. For the sake of not spending out getting their car running properly, they're quite happy throwing tons of extra fuel into the tank instead! Remember folks that even a 'lean running' carb that's lean cos its faulty will ultimately lose you MPG!

Re: Idle Issues.. Vacuum?

It looks as though it might be the hose that goes to the oil separator in the PCV system. Under the manifold towards the back of the engine there is a large plastic housing with a large tube coming off it. There is a T-Piece which contains the flame trap and there shouid be a little stump on there w...

Re: Piston rings

Read the procedures on the technical section here, and follow them exactly. The b14 engine has wet liners and if you displace them you'll most probably never get them sealed again.

Re: Mac raises himself from his sick bed and ...........

Mac agree with everything you have written. It means I post on here less and less. I can't stand bodgery there simply is NO excuse for it. Something temporary to 'get you home' or for the purposes of diagnosis is one thing (we've all been there) but a substandard repair for the sake of saving a few ...

Right, OK so for the sake of saving the cost of half a tank of petrol people are cutting off the needles......sigh. I sometimes wonder why I post up on here.

@Macplaxton, sorry it is indeed 1600 RPM, that's what I get for posting from memory and not checking first.

Rant mode off.

Re: IDLE SOLENOID AVAILABILITY?

I got your PM, sorry hadn't replied sooner, but needed to get my research done. Webcon is the place to go to. Its a Idle Solenoid for a Weber 32 DIR, and the part number is 4391104704, the price is 29.34 + 2.95 P&P and VAT. I have phoned them and they have them in stock, but a limited number only. T...
