Re: Volvo 345 GL from Portugal(1.7 engine swap and further m
Hey guys!! it's been 6 months since my last post! Time for an update! The car hasn't moved very much!! The engine doesn't offer a lot of performance and we had to think what could be wrong with it. Then the garage were the car lives lost it's electrical supply. It was very difficult to work t...

Re: e30s rear suspension to 360 swap
I don't understand the need to change the rear suspension. On paper a DeDion live axle is much more apropriate for drift (or other motorsports) than a crappy semi-trailing arms setup. If you want to replace the leafsprings why don't you fit coil overs and 4 link plus watts or panhard setup? look ove...

Re: Volvo 345 GL from Portugal(1.7 engine swap and further mods)
Well, today we tested the 345 properly. Tried to tune it and swap renix units until the idle looked good. The result is very disapointing... The idle is still high, the idle jet adjusting screw doesn't do much to tune it properly and the engine is very shakey. It doesn't show good power either. The ...

Too late. He has a 340 1.4... We're talking about tuning a 340 1.4 not a 360...Ride_on wrote:If you really want 'fast' you need to start with a faster car like a 360.

Re: bike carbs on 1.7 340
Here is a photo of the 440 exhaust manifold. I don't think that it wll fit with the standard 1.7 carb manifold.

What do you think? Thanks!

Re: Volvo 345 GL from Portugal(1.7 engine swap and further mods)
Today I went to the scrap yard and got a Exhaust and half inlet manifold from a 440 1.8. I intend to fit them to the 345. http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll197/jpvale/Volvo/Photo-0102.jpg I compared them to the standard 340 1.7 manifold and arrived to the conclusion that the 440 manifold won't fi...

How about those pictures?
The next step in the Volvo I'm working is to fit 240 4 pot calipers.

Re: Front Springs
How are front springs rated? I've seen springs at '220 lbs' etc...what exactly is that measuring? how much force to compress the spring by 1 inch? Exactly. What is the 'poundage' of a standard 340 front spring, so I can try and find something stiffer? (or know what to ask for!) The spring ratio (th...

Re: Volvo 345 GL from Portugal(1.7 engine swap and further mods)
Tonight we took the 345 for a ride! 340pw The engine works great with a steady idle althoug a bit rough because we don't have an exhaust pan, only a straight tube after the manifold. It was late and we couldn't go full throttle to test the engine because of the noise. The engine is too loud. The noi...

Re: making a 1.4 faster
A difficult task if you have a tight budget... The Volvo 300 is a heavy car so you need displacement to move it around faster. The 1.4 engine isn't up to the task. The only way to make the 1.4 faster is making it more efficient. Bigger carbs and a more un-restricted exhaust work but aren't enough to...

Re: bike carbs on 1.7 340
The B18u manifold can be fitted and that flows much better than the 1.7 but you will need to adapt the down pipe to fit. I think I found a manifold today at the scrapyard. It's from a Volvo 440 Injection rigth? Do you think that the manifold would interfere with any of the 340 hardware (crossmember...

Re: Volvo 345 GL from Portugal(1.7 engine swap and further mods)
Today I went to my local scrapyard and found a Volvo 440 Injection and looked up its exhaust manifold. It was a steel tubular arrangement instead of the usual cast iron piece. Is this the one user "classicswede" is talking about? It looks like it would need some work to fit in the 345 without interf...

Re: Volvo 345 GL from Portugal(1.7 engine swap and further mods)
I've looked up on the old strut and found the piece. All fits together now. :) Tonight we fabricated a new throttle cable but the result isn't as good as I expected. It's going to need improvement... http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll197/jpvale/Volvo/IMG_2506.jpg The anti-roll bar went back in an...

Re: 1.4 and 1.7 bell housings
I don´t have any pictures here but they are different.
The spigot shaft is longer on the 1.7 because the flywheel is a lot thinner than the 1.4 flywheel. As a result the hole bellhousing and spigot bearing piece are different from the 1.4 one.
You'll need the hole 1.7 bellhousing to fit in the F7...
