Well, lots of DAFs have arrived and are still here, and are getting very wet. But people seem happy!

I've put a few snaps of some of the cars so far on the DAF OC website under the "50 Years of Variomatic" tab.

Met James the other day, who went off with one of the driving test prizes! And Wouter ...

Hello again.

More details of the "DAF Week" are now on www.dafownersclub.co.uk under "50 Years of Variomatic".

If any 340 owners would like to attend, then great! But without wishing to sound too much like a beauracratic official, you need to let us know by completing and returning the form on the ...

There are various activities for the week, along with periods of free time for our Dutch visitors to come and go here or there.

These include a pre-booked visit to the Morgan car factory and Jaguar museum, and treasure hunts/pleasure runs around and about Warwickshire and parts of Leicestershire ...

Please don't think me being "jobsworthy", but if anyone is thinking of joining us on the Sunday (or whenever), could you please send an email urgently to Alex, the main organiser, who has put a lot of time and effort into getting the arrangements right. (apd at ntlworld.com)

This is to do with ...

Nice 345 Variomatic For Sale

One of our DAF Owners Club members has a very nice F-reg 345 Variomatic for sale. It's done about 44,000 miles, is taxed and MoTd. All very clean indeed and it goes and works well.

(I'd really like this car but I don't have the time to give it actual use etc)
Pics and contact details available here ...

You will be most welcome! The final "agenda" for the week is still being worked on.

We held a similar joint event in 2005, also based at Princethorpe (incidentally we are holding our DAF concours there this Sunday 29th June). The venue is Princethorpe College which is near Rugby and Coventry, just ...

Well I think most people know the basic story. The Volvo 343/345/340 started out life as DAF "Project P900" as far back as 1969. Unlike the Michelotti-designed "B" body cars (66 etc) the body design was done in-house.

Then various issues and things happened including the Volvo deal.

Longish story ...

Thanks for sorting it.

I'll follow your tips soon.

And nothing wrong with being stubborn - aren't we all? :D

Yep, that's the one! Pleased to see that it is still around. I sold it to a DOC member from, I think, Essex way, way back in 1998/99. It went and handled well, and, as you will appreciate, used to anoy other "trendy" cars by either keeping up with them, or leaving them standing. It was the "varicose ...

No - no heavy maths here!
It's just that iirc, the Variomatic transmission, which the "DAF77"/340 was really designed around, is heavier than the manual transmission that Volvo put in.

So, I guess what happened during the stunt/filming (no cgi then!) was that the weight of the engine caused the car ...

I remember that ad. Can't believe it's over 20 years ago now!

I seem to remember reading at the time that they crashed quite a few 340s during the planning and making of this commercial. This was mainly because they couldn't get the angle/effect quite right as the car flew out of the window.

They ...
