The hollow section between the front wheels (the bar on which
the radiator rests) is rotten on my car. As my car is mainly a cheap mode of transport (I'm more
interested in large cars) I don't think I'll fix it, but just will see how long it gets it's new APK
(Dutch MOT). But my garage said it ...

Sorry, I see. You have to be a member of that Yahoo group to
see the picture. For some reason I couldn't get the picture posted directly to this forum, so I
tried otherwise.

Over here in Holland, when the cars were new, one dealer
tried to shoehorn a B28E engine in one (156 hp) and al it did was shatter driveshafts. The
gearbox itself will handle the power, though. Just not the shaft in between.

I'm not sure rust is such a serious problem. After all, the
youngest cars are now 12 years old, and there's only a few serious spots on these cars. They
can be repaired by a good welder. The real problem is, the cars aren't worth that much, so
everyone buys a car without the rust and scraps a ...

Yes I know. But as the size isn't the same, the tank won't be
the same. It could be so that the diesel-tank doesn't have room for the driveshaft, which is
beefed-up on a 360 and isn't on a 340. So the only way to be sure is: place the to next to
each other, and spot the differences.

I've sold it now, but I had a 360GLT with A/C and electric
mirrors. Here's a pic of the center switchpanel.

The panel from my 760 is identical in size, BTW, if not in print on top.

No it's not. The engine of the 360Racing is specific to the
Italian market and was used only in the 240 Turbo over there. The 740 Turbo has a B200ET,
or a B23ET, and more horses, or a B230FT or something.

Maybe it's my english, but I don't understand what part you
mean. Is it the engine fan, or some part of the gearbox? Maybe the shaft from engine to the
gearbox?

The panel is the same in the 700 and 900-series cars, and
those will be easier to find in salvage yards. In the 300, the front two places were for the
electric mirrors (those switches are identical also), then two for the front windows, and the rear
two were for the heated seats. The center ...

The fuel tank of a diesel may be placed under the rear seat but
according to the folders, it's a different capacity from the 360: a 360 (in every guise) has 57
litres, a diesel only 48 (or 46 in other folders), which is just slightly more than the aft tank of a
340 (45 litres).

That would be interesting to say the least...
The most powerful Volvo made themselves was the 360Racing with B19ET engine and 155
horses.
A bit of warning: how do you think you can strengthen the axle between engine and gearbox?
It's not going to stand this kind of power for long.
