Re: Volvo 340 1.7 splutters and cuts out

Another common problem is air leaks from the carburettor gaskets - i.e. the ones that go each side of a spacer between the carb and the inlet manifold. Its quite easy to make your own with a cornflakes packet, or even some proper gasket material and this might give a further improvement. If you chan...

Re: Faulty propshaft, clutch or gears?

Hello, I think the propshaft is unique to the 340 and is very hard to find nowadays. I don't have much experience of propshaft problems, thankfully, so sorry I can't be more helpful in diagnosing the problem.

Re: Renix testing for functionality possible?

I guess you could test your theory about the renix by making sure it is dry and filling in the cracks with fresh sealant. Then try it on the car and see if it is better at cold starts. Can you get a spare one? They are pretty interchangeable.

Excellent work. You don't (or certainly didn't) see much about the 300 series in those magazines.

Re: New to V3M but not to Volvo's

Hello, 2 and a half grand for an 83 car is a lot of money so it would have to be very good - a top-notch car would certainly be worth that sort of amount but you would want to take a classic car buff with you before spending that sort of money. Any horrors will be well out of sight so if you can get...

Re: Renix testing for functionality possible?

The renix is very reliable and I am not sure you can check it other than looking for a regular spark. It could also be worth cleaning the flywheel sensor and testing the idle solenoid on the carburettor (just pull off the wire and it should click every time you reconnect it with the ignition on). Yo...
