I have changed the alternator, haven't checked yet, what was wrong with that and here it goes again.. alternator is charging the battery, but when I switch the ignition on, battery lamp is off. what is the reason?

A good pointer would be to start the engine then disconnect the battery wires. The engine should continue to run if it is charging.
