Re: 343, wont heavy engine ruin it?

For the 5 speed gearbox, would I need the driveshaft from 360 again or I can just replace the M45 easily with M47? I read as well that oldschool renault 5 engines are popular option for 343. Fuel economy stays similar but engines have lil more power. Anyone can comment that. They should be much ligh...

Re: 343, wont heavy engine ruin it?

Yes, I am aware of the 360. I have another thread in this forum where I was discussing different engine options for the 343, along with what parts I need from 360 to make that happen. I was not aware that 360 have different chamber angle by default. I am from Estonia. Until I was just making plans i...

Re: 47MPG with 343 1.4??!!

I have heard that plugs help with that engine a lot, is that really so? The thing is that when car is agile, snappy I tend to enjoy different kind of driving. If it offers cruising as an experince itself I go along with it very well. My 740 and 940's are quite decent performers, engines are snappy, ...

343, wont heavy engine ruin it?

Hello, So I was reading how utterly wonderful the 340's are, nice weight ratio and all that. Until I got to drive one. And bam I realized what noone seems to mention when they are describing these cars: they love to understeer if you play fool!!! Push it too hard and oh how it loves to dig the nose ...

47MPG with 343 1.4??!!

Hi, Sooo, I am finding here and there written that some quys get around 47MPG(ca 6l/100km) with the small lovely 1.4 block. I am wondering, where is the trick? In all the official spreadsheets and tables I see that this engine will use 8.5-9.5l/100km, wherever you drive. Is it because they replace d...

Re: 343 resurrection

Hi, what about the late 340's which use renault engines? I got offer for 340, 1.4l engine with 52kw, produced on 1988. The 1988 would say it uses the 360 driveline parts...but as I am not specialist...? That combination is no use for me to transplant redblock into 343? I've come to the point where m...

Re: 343 resurrection

OK, that is interesting. But I am curious how do you recognize it is 360, because of the motor gearbox combo? Looking at the Volvo 300 vin code explanation page here, it says that three first numbers are vehicle type identifiers. http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/vin_300.shtml There is another issue. In o...

Re: 343 resurrection

If you can find a 360, pop the b200 in the 740, take the bellhousing and torque tube etc from the 360 and stick it and the 234 in the 343 ... and show some of the more expensive cars on the stage what a volvo can really do :D Wheels can also be taken from mk1/2 vw golfs, polos (up to 2000ish), cors...

Re: 343 resurrection

Thanks guys, it sounds like...I would really have to love the 343 body. Since it sounds easier just to swap redblock to 360 :=) Before diving in, I will do a research in local scrapyards, how common is the 360 and 343 for scrap parts. I am going to need them anyway sooner or later. As the 740 is onl...

Re: 343 resurrection

So, to clarify the situation: I would need 360 because it came with redblock? Though the axle, gearbox and torque tube are basically the same, their proportions are different design wise? Lengths between different parts etc? I could take starting from bellhouse, torque tube and gearbox from 360 and ...

Re: 343 resurrection

Now, I inspected the 343 body I was talking about and I figured I can go on with the plans. Although the car has been standing like 10 years outside in our northern climate, it is in very good shape. No rust at all. I remember it correctly, my old man and me, we just were getting ready with complete...

Re: 343 resurrection

On 234f, I have blocked out and removed the balance shafts. As for taking the head from 234f and marrying it with B230FT, I had that plan if I should go with 240 as chassis. Now I am still holding on to the 300 idea, since chassis is almost 400kg lighter, instantly I could get much better power to w...

Re: 343 resurrection

Thanks guys! So basically it is the question of coming up with new engine mounts and figuring out the bell house connection. It seems pretty certainly I can reach out to someone for comments who has experience since it has been done more than once: http://s122.photobucket.com/user/VolvoPentaMan/medi...

Re: 343 resurrection

Thank you, after giving some thought, it sounds awful lot like, how much I want to keep my sanity :p The car should be street legal, of course over time I would go over the suspension etc to bring it to good drivability. I am not interested to invest fortune into it but on the good days I would like...

Re: 343 resurrection

Cars are divided to sub 1800cc and over 1800cc, which again have separate classes for FWD & RWD. The 300 series body is looking so tempting since it is like ca400kg lighter than 740 & 240 series. The more I dig into this subject the more troubles I see, since it is not "real" volvo. Another limit se...
