Re: Disheartened after work on carb/HG, advice needed
Just to be double-sure, whereabouts does the valve go when putting the breathers back on? Noticed the car is a bit sluggish and lumpy on acceleration, I guess this could be down to needing more carb-fiddling?

Re: Disheartened after work on carb/HG, advice needed
Thanks for the advice guys. The breather hoses were all loose, so I have ordered new ones.

Re: Disheartened after work on carb/HG, advice needed
Pleased to say, with the help of Mac's advice and rebuild guide, we had the carb off for the umpteenth time, put it back on and twiddled and it's running the best it ever has in my ownership... for the minute! Will definitely get my other carb machined and set up as a spare. :) And thanks to Mac for...

Re: Disheartened after work on carb/HG, advice needed
Thank you for the link! Bolts all went in fine and were greased. The water pump was new last year and I can recheck. The only other thing I know happened was that my partner decided to blank off the breather that comes off of the carb base because the hoses were all loose, could this be having an ef...

Done that and still doing it
Checking and changing a jet now, as it seems very wet.

Re: Disheartened after work on carb/HG, advice needed
Really appreciate the reply! The head gasket and thermostat was done at the same time. I believe I had the air leak problem with my previous carb set up, and this over fuelling problem has only occurred since the rebuild. Rebuild kit was from Classic. We are, right this moment, refitting the carb to...

Yep, new float.
Has anyone got a copy of the rebuild guide by Mac? I just clicked the link in the resources forum and it's no longer available.

Re: Disheartened after work on carb/HG, advice needed
Fuel is coming out through the venturi. Will take it apart again tonight and check the float height again. I will find that guide too! That'd be a great help! Cheers for advice.

Re: Disheartened after work on carb/HG, advice needed
Yeah, you're right
As for the hot engine, I'm hoping it's because of the high idle/amount of fuel. It used to sit happily around the halfway point on the dial, and now it creeps up towards hot and struggles to cool back down.

Disheartened after work on carb/HG, advice needed
Over the last week, I've done a head gasket change, new thermostat and a carb rebuild on my 1989 1.7. Today, me and my partner finally put everything back together, and took the car for a run. All seemed ok to start with, and then idling issues and misfires started, so bad that my car died! We are h...

Wheel wanted!
Because I'm a pleb and do things such as bidding on auctions with only 3 wheels, I'm now after one of these! Can anyone point me in the direction of one?

Re: Can anyone tell me...?
Thanks! This thread is a goldmine!
It appears that everything is back as it should! I did give the connector a bit of a clean out too.

That picture is amazing to see! Thanks! This group is the best!
I'm really hoping the problem lies inside the fusebox, and I'm fitting it today, so we will see what happens!
