Thanks for the advice guys-believe or not i'm still working on this problem. I haven't tried the blowtorch idea yet,but I've noticed the dwell meter oscillates between 50 and 54 irregularly,suggesting the distributor is at fault. Has anyone experienced this?

Possibly yes-i'm not familiar with the ins & outs of the design-just that I have a member from a facelift model and the shoulders are too short. I may have to get the two welded together in some sort of frankevolvo creation.

Thanks for the reply-the main difference is the shoulders the engine mounts on-on the early one the shoulders are longer,whereas on the face lift they are shorter. I not in too much of a hurry,but would like to drive the car more since lack of use has caused a lot of welding to be required.
