i used to get 32-40mpg around town almost 48 (think i beat it on paiage )on motorway with no stops or traffic jam-age
servicing ftw
key is feeling when second butterfly opens and knowing not to go past that point, 80mph possible if your careful.

My 340 is an English reg car originally that went to France with an English chap that got it french reg and later sold it to me in France, i drove it in England for over 6months no problems till the 2years of mot ran out (no tax to pay- as this is paid when you get the docs in your name costs around...

a memorable one for me was a merc 190 down a french bumpy road was just on the point of overtaking just over the brow of a hill and my prop shaft came loose in excess of 80-90 mph, scary horrible noise + swearing and embarrassment and a lovely tow home from a french mechanic that had no idea how 300...

^^ issues lol as much as rust is a problem not alll cars are Rusty beyond believe, get a classic with 12months ticket run for a year asses the situation if its not re ticket-able sell it to someone that can sort it, that way you get the joy of a classic for minimum cost but also keep out of the scra...

I have to agree with chris those mg maestros etc can be quite cool.. and i remember an issue of ppc with a 16v turbo it was lush and on the side there was an 8v turbo with su carb tuning guide thing, the power is quite incredible 280+ horsey s and reliable too if you sort the head gasket with the up...

Cheers! this will help me out big time, as i am still to bring the redline over and having the steelies will allow me to get it moted in Calais instead of driving to my dads to swap wheels, so it will go England to NI to England to Calais instead of the same plus 800miles :lol: + having no transport...

also everyone should check and fix leaks especially fuel leaks 12mpg from a 1.5 diesel caused by leaking fuel pump and a sieve like fuel tank full of holes, i believe 300's can suffer from leaky fuel stuff i remember having to replace all the expansion tank hoses under the plastic trim.
