Re: 1986 Volvo 340 DL cutting out at low revs

Sorry for the belated update! It was the filter. I had a new inline one fitted, and all is well in the world. The idle speed was a bit low, too, so that’s also sorted. Since that trip the 340 is now registered here in DK, the rust spots in the sills have been repaired, and (after much searching) I n...

1986 Volvo 340 DL cutting out at low revs

Hi everyone, Bit of a backstory to this one: I drove my car from London to Denmark this weekend. Quite the trek! It was fine all the way to somewhere in Belgium, at which point the engine started cutting out at low revs. Pulling up to a junction, clutch in, ready to engage first and pull away and th...

A re-introduction

Hello! I’ve been a member here for quite some years. I have a 1986 340 DL, which I’ve just recommissioned (bar a couple of little snagging issues – perished pipe from the filler cap to the tank; broken headlamp-washer clamps currently bodged with cable-ties; broken dashboard clock!). But given that ...

That noise that disappears when you depress the cluch could be the prop shaft spinning around its splines. Is it kind of a clanky sound, like marbles rolling around in a metal dustbin? This happened to me a couple of years ago - it sheared off and I had to get towed back (and replace the prop). I'd ...

I try to take my 340 out once a week for at least ten miles. It's got a new battery in it, but the cold weather seems to have quite an effect.

I hit that a few months ago - it was a special moment!

It's just eased past 80,000 now. It'll be a bit of a sad day once it hits 100,000, I think....

Anyone watching Fifth Gear?

They're interviewing Blur's Alex James - who appears to have an old, tarpaulin-covered red Volvo 440 in a barn on his farm! :D

Happened again today - a red H-reg estate. I got a thumbs up! :D

I was so astonished that I didn't think to look at what model it was!

MJ Excellent idea - I hadn't thought of that! The back bumper is looking a little grey at the moment. There are a couple of tiny dings here and there, too, and a bit of a dent in the door - but I don't think it's worth shelling out to get them fixed just yet. Tom That's almost the one! I think I'll...

Thanks! :-)

Fingers crossed that the prop holds out....! I'm going the other way from the modders - I want to get it back to stock, as close to mint condition as I can.

And yes, that means no more tape player. Or FM radio.... :?

New Volvos

Do you think the owners of brand-new Volvos look down their noses at us lot? In another 20 years, we'll be driving almost vintage cars - and they'll be the ones on www.volvoS40mania.com, searching for lumbar support adjusters and prop shafts! :P I did get The Nod from an S80 driver a few weeks ago, ...

I regularly see one parked near my house - but I've never inspected it closely. I'll have a look tomorrow morning and report back with my findings! It's a 340GL, I think.... G-reg. There's also D-reg 340GL sometimes parked nearby - and both cars look to be in pretty good nick. I might make a couple ...

My wheels

Hi! I thought it was about time I posted a picture of my beloved 340DL. :-) I bought it from my dad for a cool £1 after he got a new VW - not a bad deal, I reckon! It's only got 79,000 miles on it, too! It's a very special car to me: I sat in the back as a small child, in the front as a bigger one, ...
