rodding the radiator means taking it apart and cleaning it out. We had the same problems and when they opened the radiator it had a handful of dirt and rust in it; once cleaned it's as cool as ever. You shouldn't need to re-cord it but a good radiator shop will help.

Good luck

Just went through an overheating problem with my 1982 345 GL; had the radiator rodded at a local radiator shop and now runs cool all the time even when I leave car idling for over 15 minutes. Rodding is much cheaper than buying a new radiator too.

Good luck

Also=most tune ups are changes of the points, plugs and condensor-you need just the condensor in your case. Hope all this helps

Hey-The condensor is the little cylinder shape thing next to the distributor cap. It reduces the current, It should be a cheap item found at any auto parts store and does not have to be particular to volvco. Try squeezing with a pliers first and your problems should go away. Good luck and keep me ...

the condensor is located at the side of the distributor at the cap. You can buy one from any parts store and it does not have to be particular to a volvo. Should be cheep too.

Good luck - Also try squeezing the existing condensor with a pair pliers-a Jamaican trick that works..then buy one if ...

Just a thought; have you changed your condensor? We had all kinds of coughing and splitting and after the third condensor change it was all better.

We were extremely lucky-cars in Jamaica tend to be brand new SUV's costing double or more what vehicles in the "1st world" costs. We found an elderly couple who returned from England in 1983 with this car brand new. The drove it like 3 miles a week and then parked it for 12 years. So when we bought ...

Thanks for the reply-we thought so too but there is no oil in radiator or no water on the dip stick. And the engine never got too hot only when assending hills. And yes the roding fixed the overheating. Should add as well that this sputtering and jerking mainly occur when climbing hills as well but ...

1982 345 Sputtering and Jerking-HELP

Greetings-I recently purchased a 1982 345 GL and it ran beautifully. I noticed it was overheating so I had the radiator roded-then everything went bad. Now it sputters and jerks when I drive it. I changed the points, plugs, condensor, dist cap, lead wires etc.. and no better. I am mainly puzzled as ...
