Re: White 340 1.7 Martini
Oooooops! Hub bearing nut is a "stake nut" with a deformable ring on its outer face. On reassembly tighten nut to 54Nm, back it off by 90deg and then collapse the ring into the "key way" slot on the stub axle. Your pics look like fun, fun, fun! (In my younger days I used to rally a SAAB 96 two strok...

Re: Damn that blower gone again.
Whilst the heating and vent systems are different pre and post 1985 (1986 year model) the later system can be fitted to earlier cars (I have fitted a complete 86 system to an 84 car and can see no reason why the earlier under bonnet air box and fan cannot be fitted to a later car. The heater resisto...

Re: White 340 1.7 Martini
Evening Andrei, First - the easy answers - The bump stop does not fix to the cup at all - it "free floats" on the damper rod. The protective concertina sleeve just stretches over the cup "bell" - you anchor it's bottom end over the strut tube with a boot clamp (but usually a cable tie works just as ...

Re: White 340 1.7 Martini
Evening all, Firstly Andrei, may I express my deepest sympathies to your country for the recent TU154 crash - especially for the loss of the Alexandrov Ensemble - a truly great choir!. And of course for Yelizaveta Glinka. The "West" unfortunately often sees only the bad side of Russia when there is ...

Re: White 340 1.7 Martini
Hi Andrei, Double conical - wishbone end of anti roll bar link. Dumbell - ends of anti roll bar. Mushroom - bottom end of rear damper. Fat cylinder - top of rear damper. The metal cup sitting on top of the front strut bump stop SHOULD be be spot welded to and be part of the front spring upper mounti...

Re: White 340 1.7 Martini
A few quick comments on suspension etc. 1. Strut bottom ball joints. Bolted to wishbone, taper fit to strut. If you have no "special tool" or fork type wedge tool then a smart hammer blow on the casting around the taper (nut partially removed) should shock the taper free - just walloping on the nut ...

Re: White 340 1.7 Martini
1. Check the simple things first - loose steering wheel. (Centre nut loose?) 2. Breakage of flexible joint in steering column. (Rubber disc linking rack to column). 3. Outer track rod ends. (Links rack to strut). 4. Inner track rod ends. (Inside steering rack boots). Less likely 5. Wear in steering ...

Hi there Andrew,
Great to see the update!
A quick thought - if you have "had rats" check the wiring looms carefully - the little beggars love to knaw and chew on wiring and can cause havoc. Your description rather points to ignition problems.
All the best - Mac.

Re: Carbs in bitz
Hi there François, There are a number of basic adjustments that need to be set prior to tuning with the engine running. Obviously the float height needs to be set - with the top gasket fitted. http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h66/macmacfarlane/a4a1910d45ffdea481d33fcdb8efefc6_zps7hijsmhm.jpg With t...

Re: Diff oil in front shocks.
Just as you would expect if you use an oil not designed for suspension damping! - severe foaming, overheating, and a REDUCTION in unsprung weight control!!! Even specific damper oil with the correct anti foaming additives can suffer under severe conditions - hence gas filled dampers (an incorrect de...

No - my prototype at least went off on holiday, resurfaced about a year ago and then went travelling again.
Haven't had a postcard for a while now.
