Re: Can this 109 live again?

As a total beginner to the world of these odd fixed jet carburettors I will admit to being slightly perplexed as to why, when this particular carb type thing is described as a 32DIR Type101, the thread title asks whether this '109' will live again. Has it mysteriously gained 8 somethings? Was it ori...

Re: Future Black Boxes for Cars

Young drivers are already stuffed. My son, who is 17, cannot realistically get insurance unless he uses one of the 'black box policies'. £1950 a year (for a 15yr old V40 1.6) with a Black Box policy versus £4200+ for a non BB policy and it's obvious which route he is going to choose. What's even bet...

Re: '85 360 GLS

Given you've got a sticky valve type issue I'd be tempted to strip the head down (cam out, tappets out, colletts out, valves out etc) and send the head off for hot tank/skimming. It should be less than £30 and at least you'll know that it'll all be ok on reassembley assuming you clean up the valve s...

Re: '85 360 GLS

Hmmm, this sounds like the perfect excuse to rip out that horrible B200K and put something like a B200/230FT/K in it. Why go to all the hassle of fixing what is the least desirable redblock when you could just as easily fit a decent one?

Re: 1977 343

I seem to recall that early dash 200's earth the instrument cluster via the clock. I do recall this earth is prone to fail and that the resultant power drop, while not enough to affect the clock's operation, is enough to cause all sorts of erratic instrument cluster problems. Running a new earth wir...

Re: Non 300 content inside

It's had a resprayed tailgate at some point, or a replacement tailgate as the badges are in the wrong place. I'm trying to work out if that's a 140bhp H cam'd engine or the later 136bhp K cam'd one. '80/'81MY cars had the H cam, and some of the '82MY ones came with it. '83MY's (as far as I can tell)...

Indeed! That is an insult to The Mac.

I tend to think of The Mac as a V12; in theory it should be smooth but there is an inherent roughness to it, it is fantastically complicated, a wild extravagance, totally and utterly unnecessary, but the world would be a colder place without it......!

Re: '82 343 DLS saved from scrap, now with historic plate

I've not seen one, but it does raise the question about the pre-MY83 Smiths DLS/GLS speedo available in MPH. :? Indeed. The 2.0 litre models were not available in the Uk until after the dash change for '83MY, they weren't (to my knowledge) available in Africa or the Indian subcontinent, Australia d...
