I'm sure this doesn't help, but the supposedly 'thirsty' 2.0 carb motor can easily make 100 miles to £10. The injection is another matter (with its hotter (A profile) cam, and slightly higher state of tune)... Sadly the 1.4 is an ancient design (how many OHV family-sized cars could you buy in 91?!),...

Excellent news - I've got an original Volvo sender for you :) 400 seres cars with the 'info centre' use the same sender :)

I'm afraid the sender cost me a bit, so ye olde cost will have to rise a little, but how does £20 incl shipping sound?

cheers

That is strange, as the gauge is purely mechanical! Yeah, you could try oiling it. If the big curved bellows/spring is buckled at all though, its time for the bin...

This is how all the ones like this I've seen have worked. Yours isn't the Smiths version (all-white markings) is it? Those might be a bit different. It's most likely a gauge problem - they're very prone to damage.

Here is the vid... http://www.kinveredge.org.uk/Volvosite/foggy/360%20gauges.MOV Thats during fairly heavy acceleration....you can see it under engine breaking in the last few seconds (right around to the right). You'll need to Apple Quicktime to watch it...I've got 6.5 (latest), and that certainly ...

Well it measures vacuum drop (ie: throttle position). When the throttle is closed, the engine is sucking air out of a semi-sealed enclosure, in other words it tries to create a vacuum. When the throttle is open, air can rush in (through the intake / filter) to replace the air being sucked into the c...

Well it obviously isn't a true measure of economy, as for that you'd need to take account of road and engine speed, hence why you can get a better reading when stationary than when on the move. I keep meaning to make a brief video of mine in action. Basically on anything more than about 1/4 throttle...

5lab,

I'm pretty certain I can source a suitable sensor on the cheap, so I'd ignore my auction for now, and we'll sort out the temp gauge alone when I've got the part.

If you do buy it, and I manage to get a sender for my 'spare' temp gauge, I'll buy the econ gauge from this kit back from you (Half the price of the kit?) It might be worth waiting, as you may be able to get my spare gauge 'on the cheap' with a sender, and if not, I'll be listing another set before ...

Yeah, I know what you mean. Up until recently I wasn't spending much on the car, but then I decided to base it on what its worth to me, rather than on the car price market.

Shall I have a go at tracking down a air temp sender for you? Gimme a week or two...

Ah, I knew I'd forgotten something! The 'normal' price is £50 incl shipping for a kit. I put the buy it now at £55 to help cover the fees on ebay! It may well be a standard item (I know some fuel injection systems use an air temp sensor...), but I would try to source an original. You could try exper...

http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/photopost/data/500/74amb_temp_sender.jpg There's the sender. I'm afraid that pic won't tell you much. You'd be pretty lucky to get the right bits from Maplin. It's a VDO part. The printing is as follows... VDO Germany 809/7/5 Volvo 208 409 Would you like me to call VDO t...

I do have a spare (odd) temp gauge, but no other parts from the kit (ie: no wiring or sender). £15 including postage? The wiring is nothing special (except that its in a tape-wrapped factory loom), so you could make do with any old wire. The sender is a VDO part, so it ought to be available...but it...
