Re: HUB NUT?

Thanks ride-on, the nut looks as if it's been staked at least 3 times! My car made two huge BANGS yesterday from said wheel but still seems to be driving ok. Im gonna leave it off the road until my wheel bearing kit arrives from ebay and then limp it down the road to an "old school" mechanic that my...

Re: HUB NUT?

Im not gonna try and do it as it's way out of my capability as an amateur mechanic! I've found a wheel bearing kit on ebay for £13 which consists of a stake nut, 3 circular components and what looks like a small pouch of grease? Why does the nut have to be undone by 90 degrees after you've set it to...

Re: HUB NUT?

Thanks Chris, this is a great help. Im guessing then that the wheel bearing's knackered due to me having driven around with the stake nut loose? If I borrow a torque wrench will it have the settings marked out on it suggested by my haynes manual? Im guessing I will have to then loosen the nut by 90 ...

HUB NUT?

My front offside wheel has been making some strange noises lately. I jacked the car up to investigate this morning and discovered that the 24mm hub nut was actually loose!! I tightened it as much as I could by hand and then moved it back slightly so that the recess in the nut was in line with the re...

Re: A PAINT PROBLEM!

Obviously my car would have faded considerably from its original colour so 227-6 will probably look a lot darker...

Re: A PAINT PROBLEM!

Best thing to do is go to a paint shop and get them to match to a sample (fuel filler would do) and they will be able to take into account any fading. Red's are hard to match and some paint codes have more than 1 shade. For example there are 3 very different shades of 46 red but the chassis paint o...

Re: A PAINT PROBLEM!

Thanks Dai that is very helpful. My cars code is: 227. I will check under the bonnet shortly to see if theres an added number for shade.

Also, am I correct in thinking that cellulose paint is the best; is this what some describe as lacquer?

Re: A PAINT PROBLEM!

I need some more touch up paint for my 340 and the guy I usually get it from on ebay has stopped trading! I have found someone else but they have written the following under their paint: This Aerosol paint is a 400ML aerosol Mixed in a Basecoat Formula and requires a Lacquer . Why would it require a...

Re: INDICATOR-STEM MOUNTING HOLE CRACKED?

Ive used a metal repair bracket which I had to cut to the correct length and drill an extra hole. The side that has the earth wire just about takes the original bolt!

I've put blue locking-compound on all four bolts to hopefully stop them working loose again...

INDICATOR-STEM MOUNTING HOLE CRACKED?

The lower plastic hole that locates/holds my indicator-stem has cracked. Im guessing there's not a hope in hell that superglue will work to replace the part thats cracked off? Also the top screw seems loose; It seems in order to do it up I need to remove the steering wheel plus the speedo fascia?...
