Re: Engine stall (B14 340 1984)

holymoly...What would you say if I told you that the original 1984 engine had dual barrel weber too?

Carbs look the same. I have to check out the númbers.
Seems like I had it right at first when I told him to repair the old engine instead of using one I had sitting in the attic for centuries :P

Re: Engine stall (B14 340 1984)

Ah...that too. What makes this combination not good?

As I said it's not my car. Now I have something to start with and I'll try to help him out.
I'm considered some sort of variomatic guru around here but these B14 engines are not my strongest area.

Re: Engine stall (B14 340 1984)

B14.2 (1981), renix and distributor is from the 1984 engine.
Carb is original one from 1981 engine.

Symptoms are exactly same that before the engine swap.
Engine had to be swapped due to cracked cylinder tube and head

Engine stall (B14 340 1984)

Little help...My friend has a 340DL variomatic and it has recently developed stalling problems. After high revs it stalls almost every time. It has a recently replaced engine and this stalling occured with old engine too. This is why I'm a little baffled over this now. The whole engine is replaced w...

Re: B19A engine mounts

Welcome to the ghost train man...finding new mounts is nearly impossible now.

Just put much thicker metal pieces under the mount upper attachment point and you'll do fine a few years.

Re: 360 here to stay but weird battery problem

Oh how very familiar. This happened to me once even with the radio crackling first just like this. What did I do? - Replaced the battery - Replaced the alternator with brand new - Put new main wires from alternator to starter After a few days the same happened again. The cause was the alternators gr...

Re: Pointless ignition (volvo 66)

No pics, sorry. I have about 8 cameras and not one of them are ever with me :P I replaced the bushings inside the steering gear. I dismantled the whole steering axle with steering wheel, removed the steering gear in whole and dismantled it too. Inside the steering gear are two sets of nylon bushings...

Re: Pointless ignition (volvo 66)

It's running fine. I replaced the steering gear today. Took 4 hours and now I have to adjust it properly. Seems a bit stiff with new nylon bushings inside. I found out what those mystery lines stand for; 6 degrees per line. So in fact it DOES work fine with original settings. I did set the advance a...

Re: Pointless ignition (volvo 66)

Just to be sure...does anyone have knowledge how many degrees is one line at the flywheel? It has mark 0 degrees then lines, no numbers. I made the adjustment as I recalled one line being 3 degrees. Books say that it should read numbers but medonthavesones... :?

Re: Pointless ignition (volvo 66)

Maybe...maybe not. From experience I can tell that measured curves are rarely what is printed in old vacuum controlled distributors with points. I have to get to the carb next. It wouldn't be the first car where jamming vacuum advance in distributor is compensated with carb settings. Now when it doe...

Re: Pointless ignition (volvo 66)

This is not exactly so... If you think of the advance curve and why pinking happens it means that 123's curve is pretty much the same at 2000-4500rpm range. The vacuum curve is more agressive thus making the same amount of advance at same amount of rpm = results the same engine output and advantages...
