well the cost's apart from petrol shouldn't be a problem guys, €25,- and after the race you get €10 back!
at the track i had a blast today since it was WET!!, there weren't a lot of 300's (only 3) but; Ronald Romme's restaurated 2.3 powered 360 GLT
http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... f=5&t=5570 got first price in the modified class!
among all the cars were lovely classic amazon's, p544, a few old 240's, a few 7 series including very quick turbodiesels and offcourse a few highpower 850's and C70's, fastest spec car was a white C70, 390bhp; way too overkill for the frontwheels on this small track but very cool to watch and hear.
i made a total of 5 runs, first 2 were disqualifications since i made a mistake at the start cutting a corner; i wasn't the only one so a official modified the track. then i was drifting my way to a nice time too but hit a pylon (5sec penalty) and a few bends later i spinned out. the run after that i managed to spin out on the very same place
the 5th run went perfect and i was drifting my way to a reasonable quick time, nothing to be ashamed of! i didn't win a trophey for quick times but as an official said, if there was a price for the most spectacular driver; i would have won it
most of the time you here people shouting that they are good drivers but the car is a useless piece of shit. well, in my case it is the exact opposite. the 340T is so wellbalanced and drives so good that at this time i am nowhere near capable of getting the max result out of it; the thing that has to learn and get better is literally located on the drivers seat. this doesn't mean i stop improving the car though
unfortunatly the road back didn't go as planned... 10minutes away from the circuit i suddenly saw smoke in the rearview mirror, kicked on the clutch and the engine idled very smooth; i didn;t have a clue what was going on so i tried driving on, more smoke. i shut the engine of and rolled the car out; placed it next to the road and opened the bonnet; then i saw probably the most scary thing i've ever seen happening right before my very eyes, the engine caught fire. i saw the entire build and even the enormous stack off bills for the car parts flashing in my head while i was running to grab my fire extinquisher. it was under the passenger seat but somehow i couldn't find and get it, so practically without hope i despiratly desided to try and blow the fire out and by a f*cking miracle that worked! the flames were gone and i kept blowing on it untill the smoke cleared..
time to investigate the damage; oilfeed nipple on top of the turbo broke right off spraying oil all over the turbo and manifold
so; i could forget about repairing it on site, sat down for a minute or 5 to regain my senses and called a few mates who eventually towed me for 100km back home. tonight will be a special night, since i know i am very lucky that my car is at the house and not burned out on a local street 100km away
a big lesson well learned, that fire extinquisher will be relocated to a spot where i can instantly grab it in case it goes wrong.
a shitload of great movies, pics etc were made today; for the next few days i'll see what i can dig up on the internet and post it here!
