Yes but how much does the trailer weigh? If it's just the car, fine but if you are pulling it on a trailer you might have control issues due to the weight.
Re: Towing a 4x4 with a 1.7, possible?
just on a tow rope.
also legality issues...
I cannot for the life of me find the FULL road traffic act, it's like the DVLA doesn't want you doing dodgy things to get around the law....
Question is, would this be legal;
Book (untaxed, untested) vitara in for mot at my fave place - then tow the vit to the mot station.
If pulled over the vit is "exempted" because it's going for an mot.
its going from Birmingham to Bolton - it will have insurance too
Is THAT legal ??? -- {TOWING an untaxed but insured car 40 miles or so to a pre-booked mot}

Re: Towing a 4x4 with a 1.7, possible?
If it's insured then yeah, that'd be fine. There are some people who say that it has to be your nearest MOT station but there is nothing that defines this. However, the vehicle does need to be in a roadworthy condition. If you do get pulled, tell them you were on your way and broke down and will hope the garage will fix the car after the MOT. Just be wary about the last few miles when you're deffinatly not driving to the MOT station though.

I once towed a trailer with my 1.7 (trailer probably weighed 200-300kg) with a tonne of topsoil in, so it will tow it, just accelerate carefully so as not to burn the clutch out. The 1.7 easily tows our caravan which has a maximum laden weight of 960kgs.
