Tracking

Post by Tom » 15 Aug 2005 07:40 pm

Hello all!

My tracking seems to be always going off - just the other day I had it correctly adjusted, but now it's veering to the left again. I suspect there are broken parts somewhere in the steering column but I don't want to have a look until I get more opinions on this.

A possibility is that some of the parts could be broken from the second crash, but surely they would have deteriorated to a point where they were very dangerous/beyond repair by now??

Any advice is gratefully received.

Thanks in advance

Tom

Hi Tom , I doubt the damage would be in the column itself , more likely the rack or track rods ,
make sure you are checking the car on flat ground and not on a normal road ,
some roads have a camber i.e. the centre of the road is higher than the gutter to help water drainage and if the camber is quite steep ( not being funny but more likely in older towns like Leeds Bradford etc ) this can give the impression of steering pulling to the left

I think I posted about it when it happened...the Golf hit me from the side? Ring any bells?

Cheers for your suggestions Mick :)

Also check for play in the wheels you could have worn bushes or joints.
