Drifting setup

Post by cosyone » 17 Mar 2006 11:12 pm

Hello all,

I am picking up a 1.7 3dr 340 tomorrow which sole pupose is to drift, so welded diff, stripped interior, 13" alloys and lowered etc...

I am having lots of trouble finding suspension parts from manufactures can anyone help me please?

I have heard of 'classicwebe' from a few threads and seen the performance parts section you have.

Has anyone tips/advice for me for the parts I require to set the car up.

I do live near nev so he will be my next point of call, but last time I heard (before the ooopsy) he cut his springs and torched the leaf spring system to lower the car!!! Nuts. I want polybushes all round, bars, braces, shocks, springs..... If anyone can offer where to find this I would be grateful.

On a different note, I want the car as low as reasonably practical so the 7 x 13's don't rub.

Regards

Cosy

Welcome dorifto...

Nev's had a 5 link rear set up on his 340 in the end using Avo coilovers I believe. The chopped springs and heated leafs were the beginning just to slam it :D

Classicswede does indeed have alot of tasty parts - check out the 'performance parts catalogue' thread, i think in the 'Offers' section, otherwise try a search.

7x13"s shouldnt rub... unless you get some crazy offset or you're going ridiculously low. However, practical with a welded diff - I don't even think thats possible

Normaly the drift cars go for a 80mm drop on the front (from std factory height) these are no problem. On the back I would thing my std set of spax adjusted up would be more than stiff enough. The reason Nev made the 5 link is because he made the mistake of heating the springs - that is why they snapped. I do 50mm lowering blocks for the rear so that will get you nice and low. The secret with drifting is to have very little suspension movment.
Pm me if you want to know more.

Thanks Dai, spoke to nev he only lives 10 mins from me anyway. I will be seeing him later on/when I get the volvo. Looks like I will be asking for bits, especially if your the one who can supply them.

I went to pick up th volvo today but the clutch had gone so I told them to fix it, so hope to pick it up next weekend. Then drop it to nev for the work.

80mm front, 50mm rear???

Thanks for your help guys.

That is right the rear will have sagged a little and the car will sit very well on that combo.

Why do you recon to lower more the front than the back?

If I want thae back lowered 2,5cm should I lower the front more than that or 2.5cm to?

adding rake to the suspension (front lower than rear) , increases lift off over steer and is useful when feint drifting.

No, I think the fact that the rear of 300s sag significantly after age - so lowering the front more than the back gives an even lowering overall.

Correct Steve. The front springs are 80mm from factory height as the lowering blocks are 50mm from todays sagged ride height. You may find the front is a little lower than the rear but that does still work well.

Well have spoken to Nev, just got to hope that the gentlemen can fix the car for me by the weekend, then it's off to nev for welded diff, suspension and wheels etc...

Thanks Dai for your suspension parts link, not sure if Nev uses you for that? Also any ideas for a future engine to use for drifting?

Is this a relatively cool swap?

Nev and I were discussing Renault 19's and williams engines.

Not into a 340 it isn't, Haak is on about the volvo 2.3 turbo engine which is a straight(ish) swap into a 360, you've got to keep to Renault stuff
