odd problem...
ok, on nessy, none of the dash instruments except for speedo work. i think this must be a common ground thats gone? as otherwise revgauge would work at least - i'm guessing it has something to do with me taking out the stereo - any suggestions?

First check if you accidentally blown a fuse or anything else obvious.
Most likely the problem is at the two connectors (multi-plugs) that connect to the back of the dash. You can try taking the covers under the steering wheel off and wiggle them a little (there's very little working space, so be slow and careful), if that doesn't help you'll have to take the dashboard out (2 screws at the top on the front). But before you do that, first disconnect the speedo cable or else you're guaranteed to break the connector (a bayonette type thing which you twist to release it). It's best to also disconnect the two multi plugs first.
The problem with these plugs is that the soft plastic sheet with the printed copper wires is folded into the socket and the plug connects directly to that.
The speedometer works because it has a mechanical connection to the front wheel.
