A M R wrote:why are drifters going for 1.7's more than the 2 litres?
I've been wondering this too. Volvo redblocks are probably among the strongest 4cyl engines and srongest stock bottom ends handle over 400hp.

I'm not dissing the Renault engines by any means, just wondering why it's the drifting crowd who prefers Renault engines. :)

One reason could be that redblocks aren't high-reving engines as stock, so it takes head work, proper engine managment and more custom stuff to get the engine going really good above 5000-6000rpm, so 1.7 might be better for lower budgget solutions.

And of course with redblocks, hunger grows while eating and all the sudden you are making so much power that you are shattering the 360 drivetrain in pieces..

1.7 is ofcourse lighter engine too..

It's true that budget drifters are probably the biggest crowd to buy stuff, but then again it's not a good to make products aimed just for them either, though most stuff listed will sale for every group so no problem so far.. ;)

Bennett has a point, I'd love a decent sump guard, I have a sheet of 7mm ali here, but something a tad more shaped to the car would be good, i.e. the orig drip tray with a lot more slopeyness to the front, and a box/diff/fuel tank shield too!!!

both my stnd 2.0l rev for fun and just want to be rev'd for some strange reason, while my bro's wont rev as hard. maybe his isnt run in enough as its only got 44k on the clock ,i dont know. when i drive it like i've stole it ,it pulls and pulls and on road rallys i never go into 4th just get it upto 7k in 3rd :P
my bro had a r9 or something once and it also liked to rev,but when you took it above about 6.5k it popped the hose off the water pump every time

anyways sump guards would be nice

So Dai, what's it gonna be first, plenty of options kicking about :)

Going off topic slightly, do you reckon it would be possible to integrate some sort of shop into V3M. I know Dai's got his Parts Catalogue thread, but that's not too easy to find if you dont know about it. How about a link at the top of the page to some sort of 'e-showroom'. Perhaps not full ordering facilities, but just somewhere to show off what products are available. Mac's diff gasket kits could go in there too. Just a suggestion :)

A M R wrote:well i havent really got my car yet so i dont know if this is my place to post, but some nice things would be engine parts (for more power, strength, and reliability), rollcages possibly, fibreglass panels (bonnet, boot), an ITB setup maybe?
Rollcages is something I can bet done at a resonable price already. They would have to be fitted tbh for the best job.
Fibreglass pannels are a good idea for drifting and track but a lot of rally boys like steel pannels as they take more of a beating. A good idea but I only have a few contacts in the grp game and don't think there in enough interest.

ITB nice idea - I think twin webber manifold would be a good idea for the 1.7. I already have them for the 360.

Rear ARB is one I have been considering. Anyone want to put there name down as interested?

Front strut braces are a possible but I had a feeling there are issues over bolt position being different from car to car. Rear braces on a 300 serve no purpose other than looks on a 300 as they have no control of suspension geometry.

quaife can supply diffs , dont know anybody willing to pay £750 for the privilege of one tho .

i certainly think getting rid of the de dion could be a real incentive , its heavy and just sings out for a proper IRS with coilover , kill two birds with one stone , and likley not to be that expensive .

As for engines , manifolds for bike throttle bodies , and of course decent exhaust manifolds .

then again i dont know anyone with an engine capable of outflowing a std easily available manifold .

perhaps a log header for 1.4 turbo boys .

if you need help with laser cutting i have a good contact who works on night shift .
Brakes - good idea. I do feel the 300 brakes are very good for standard tbh but vented discs is something I'm willing to look at as far as possible. I have had a few ideas but nothing that is simple enough yet.

Manifolds - yes I can do. Who wants one?

LSD - is just out of most V3M members reach tbh

IRS to big a project and I don't want it myself. Nev already has this set up available aswell so no point two of us doing it.

One thing I havn't been able to find much on is cams for the 1.7T, kent will do a regrind, as will catcams, but maybe something off the shelf? Problem is its a bit application specific I guess those who are dropping in turbos all want different things from them.
Cams are a great idea. A few ppl have asked (for na 1.7). The trouble is I dont think many ppl are willing to spend on a cam. I think some of that comes from the fact you cant show ppl a performance cam from the outside.
Chris I may have a s/h hot 1.7 turbo cam. I'm not sure on the spec though.

Fuse wrote: I think that very large scale mods, like IRS and such, aren't something which can be manufactured for a sensible price with such low production numbers. I think that energy and attention should be put more on the parts, which are yet effective, but still maintain a reasonable "bang for buck" ratio.

Of course IRS and such are very nice, but setup like that isn't so hard to build by your self either, if someone really wants one. Full bolt-on kit wouldn't be very easy to manufacture, so it's pretty much same to do the whole job yourself.

Of course if these bigger mod-kits wouldn't affect on the availability of the other parts, then I don't mind.. But I think that even Dai hasn't got endless resources. ;)

Rear ARB would be definately good, though there are shops around which make such an ARB as you want for a low price, but there's always the hassle to take the car in etc... so 300-series spesific would be good. Even better if the solution, where welding of the rear axle wouldn't be required, would be possible, because in here, welding of the rear axle isn't allowed if you wan't your car to be road legal. ;)

If rear ARB is added, also a WATT-link would be quite good also, especially on high power appilications. Maybe a similiar DIY-kit, which are available for 200-series, would be possible for 300-series also. A kit where all the parts come with in, but the adjustments and the setup would be done by yourself.

And then one thing which comes in to my mind are the engine mounts on the Volvo engine models. As there are many 360s on the road, where engine hangs way too low because of the worn hydraulic mounts, and Volvo doesn't supply those anymore. Early Volvo engine models came with a rubber-metal type mounts (not sandwich mounts though) so maybe something similiar would be possible? I think that early mounts featured a metal casing which had rubber inside (quite like the newer type hydraulic mount, but instead of hydraulic fluid, there was rubber) so even if the rubber would've gone bad, the engine wouldn't have dropped on the road, like it would happen with a normal sandwhich type mount if it would be used in a setup, where engine is hanged on the mounts. Here's my illustration of the older type mount, it's not accurate I think, but I think the structure was something like that. (Normal sandwhich type mount on the left and early 300-series one on the right) http://koti.mbnet.fi/mtn/images/autot/v ... ntings.JPG red parts are metal and black parts are rubber.

Though the stock early rubber mount setup of the Volvo also included a shock absorber between the front beam and the engine, so I don't know if something like that would be required with other mounts, than hydraulic ones, when the engine is hanging on the mounts.

Of course the best solution would be conversion kit for 240-type setup, where engine is sitting on the mounts, but this might be again a too big package?

So far better clutches for Volvo engine models are available from other makes and models as bolt-on (Bigger Volvos if central part is switched and straight bolt-on can be found from Opel (Vauxhall)/VW sector), so those are not needed so badly, but I don't know what's the situation with 1.4 and 1.7 models. :)

I'll write more if something comes to mind.. :P Cheers.
Very good points.

I dont want to be doing big projects. 1) I don't have the time to put into big projects and cant be without the car for that long.

I now have a stock 360 engine mount and will be looking at making a conversion to something better. I will make it so it will take the power from a turbo engine.

Numbers is an important thing as the sales need to pay for development cost. Its also pointless me spending time on a project if only half a dozen ppl use it.

Well I'd definately be interested in the rear ARB, front strut brace and the engine mounts. But as with everything, money is the deciding factor.

Adjustable strut tops are on the way. I'll need to find out how many will be wanting them. I'll hopefully get a chance to put soem time into this project over christmas.

Sump gard is one I want to do just not had a chance to get it done.

manifolds seem like a good idea and a common suggestion.

Well thank you to everyone who has replied so far :D . I know I have not made a comment to everyone but i've done as many as I can for one night.

The manifolds seem a common suggestion but what for?
1.4? inlet exhaust?
1.7 inlet? ehaust? na? turbo?
360?

These are porjects I can push on with if there is enough interst in any one type.

Keep the suggestions rolling in.
At the end of this I'll try and set up a poll to get an idea in numbers of what ppl are intested in.

Thanks to everyone who replies
