In a carb 360?

Hehe, I meant 4k and above. Usually upshift at around 5.5.
Thankfully the current car does not have any of these silly guages

Steve has a good memory - I've got a Mk2 B plate - old school B19 candy apple fire bomb - god I love that car (sorry, I'm a bit drunk).
I need old school guages to go with it.
I've had two full on emergency stop/violent evasive manauver situations in the last week(Neither of them even nearly my fault) and she's behaved flawlessly, kept me safe, and come out unmarked.

Although yes, Hugh is probably right (he'll be smug now

). 85 cars I've seen have been VDO gauges. I think Smiths 8k RPM and all white dash clocks are 1984 at the latest.

As far as I'm aware B200 cars got VDO clusters, and B19s got Smiths. For some reason, I was sure your car had a B200 Ronnie...?! I have a pair of those Smiths gauges for sale
cheers

In that case, you sure it's a B19 Ronnie? Errrr....I think the best rule of thumb is silver rocker cover = B19, black = B200.

The engine number is 19000011843 if that's a clue - and yes the rocker cover is silver.
But I'm almost certain my previous two B200 GLT's had silver rocker covers also
Very interested in your gauges, Foggy. I'll have a closer look at my instruments tomorrow to try to confirm manufacturer. They do look very similar to previous mk3 sets I've seen.
It's possible this was a 1984 car sold later. Or some kind of cross-over mongrel who raided the parts bin.
Too right, Adam! Your grill will look the bollocks - can't wait to fit it

I'm pretty sure the VDO clusters are ALL coloured and the rev counter goes to 7000rpm max. Whereas the Smiths rev counter goes to 8000rpm and is all white.

I'm afraid the engine number means very little to me off the top of my head, much as it probably should! The label on the underside of the bonnet ought to tell you.
Correct Steve...all white colouring, 8000rpm tach and 'odd' numbered speeds (30, 50, 70, etc) are the signs of a Smiths cluster.
cheers

Dont forget the easily noticable shape of the LEDs in the fuel and temp gauges!!! Round in VDO gauges Square in Smiths gauges!!!!

Good point Adam.. I actually prefer the Smiths clusters, Odd number speeds are far more useful here!

does the smiths still have 'l/min' on the rev gauge? wtf does that mean??
my 84/b 340 was a vdo - davids two 1984 gls's were one of each - the b19 had a smiths and the b200 was a vdo..

Yes it does. (EDIT: Just checked...No it doesn't!

It says "rpm x 100") I spent some time thinking about that. I think it's the mathematical way of expressing the situation....
1/min....ie: whatever the needle reads /min. A bit hardcore for a car, I'd say...
