Double leaf question

Post by mrsoundcraft » 23 Jul 2010 11:40 am

When fitting a second set of leaf springs I assume you need to remove the locating pin (if you can call it that) in the middle of the leaf to allow it to sit neatly against the original spring?

I don't want to remove it, only to be told I shouldn't have.

you have to remove the locating pin but you definatly not want to wipe the function of it away!

if you clamp the leafsprings in a vice; you can get the locating pin out with a good pair of grip pliers. then drill a hole all the way through BOTH leafsprings.

that way you can run a bolt trought the leafsprings/loweringblocks and mount to the axle (a M10 bolt is preffered)

you do want a slow rpm drill (one of these; i don't know the english word: http://www.2college.nl/tech/begrippen/kolomboor.JPG)
and a special drillbit to get through the springsteel; it's tough material!!

it's best to spend a bit extra time on doing this properly rather than having an rear axle that moves all over the place

Thanks for the info. :D
That sounds like quite a secure way of double leafing. I think I'll need to get some of Dai's leafspring bushes if I need to remove the car's current set of leafs to work on.

Finlay got to starting this. Ive got my new bushes and I want to get them on.

Maybe I dont have a good enough set of grips, but here's some pics

It now turns by hand but the spanner got me started, couldn't pull it out with grips

turn it around: locating pin in the vice clamped tight; then turn the leafspring while pulling it off the locating pin
