Future power upgrades

Post by Speedy88 » 14 Aug 2010 03:07 pm

Thinking about next year, I was thinking about going down the route of adding a turbo to the F7R. Thing is, would it be worth the final result? It would take me beyond 200bhp for sure and that would knacker any prop I attach within a few hundred miles. Metal prop is possible but then what sort of strain would be exerted to the box and drive shafts?

Ideas anyone? (Without going down the custom drive-train route)

Get in contact with reco prop. Husky was running 220bhp on his and never gave him any trouble.

Can't see why the gearbox wont cope - the M46/7 was fitted to 900's with upto 175bhp and a fair amount of torque from the old redblock! I'd just consider a prop from reco prop and see how it goes!

M47 can take 250Nm

i won't take contact with Reco-prop. we have 3 useless propshafts with 300 fitment here in holland. the guy that made them for Huskyracer has switched jobs in the meanwhile.
these props are resonating if you throw a bit of torque at them

still trying to find a solution here :(

This worries me, they have a reputation of being able to do a certain Triumph diff that is pretty much impossible. I'm looking to get a prop done in the near future and did get a recommendation on a company who are much cheaper and just as good (as the old reputation).

As per orig thread, depends what you want Mr Speedy. You realise for each step of more power, you are likely to loose the the awesome driveability you currently have? If I wasn't bothered about this, I'd be looking at cams and a remappable ecu.

Sound advice. Re Chris; you mean a turbo would effect how drivable the 340 would become? Apart from sudden unpredictable lurches I can't really think how it would be effected. This is all due to inexperience of course. It would become a commuting/fun car next year so driveability is slightly less important. (Saying that, it's running like shit at the moment)

they both have it's charm, boosted driving is a real treat with the punch in you back as soon as the charger kicks in; and the sound of your BOV and wastegate when you're pushing it. vs a real potential screaming NA with very direct pedal response and linear poweline.

but turning a engine wich is designed to run NA into boosted will allways require a whole load of work and cost, and most of the time not even that efficient/optimal. i know a guy wich has a charged F7R in his clio, and before he breaked the 300bhp barrier he allready maxxed on about every part of the engine. i'd indeed check out options to get more power out the F7R, like WoodooUk had on his 340 for example; chipped + cams?? he made a very nice result allready and that's a whole lot of less work as to a turbo conversion!

Not soley turbo's, anything. More cams will mean you loose low end etc. Depending how mad you go it won't be hugely noticeable. FWIW, get what you have running well first ;) I'd suggest you want to know what you wish to change and why before spending vast lots of pennies.

Whats the overall aims for the car? The F7R is fairly highly strung for a stock road car engine already, you'd likely see 200bhp NA before it got upsetting though!

heh I thought of buying it some new wheels, maybe then it will run better

I'm just thinking of what I want from the car in the future. Eventually (and by that I mean much time and much money in the future) I want a scooby/evo contender. Hey, we can all dream big  But like anjo described, at this current time I'd love that mad moment when the turbo hits boost plus all the whizz and hiss that goes with it. They're just thoughts of course, the tardis goes SORN in 2 weeks for a few months. Whaa.

Don't buy the propshafts from reco-prop.

Husky0racers also had problems with it, but he made an adjustment on it, but still they aren't perfect.
