B5234 adaptor plate for an 85 360
B5234 adaptor plate for an 85 360
Greetings from down under in Perth Australia.
Let me start off by introducing myself; I'm jere, and I recently moved to Perth and bought a 360glt.
Now I'm getting a b5234 next week and I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me out with finding an adapter plate.
I know there's some but would I have to go get one made or are there websites where I could buy one for a reasonable price?
I will be making a build thread once I get the engine and have some money to start buying parts
Oh and it will be a sleeper/daily driver for those wanting to know.
Cheers to all.

Yeah had to download google chrome
Well I think I'm going to see if I can get one made for cheaper because I don't really want to dish out a week and a half of pay for an adapter plate.

I use the "translator 1.0.4.4.4" plug in in Firefox
Re: B5234 adaptor plate for an 85 360
Ok.
I've decided to get the adapter plate from klracing so I'll wait until the engine comes so I can make sure I have everything before I rush into things.
By the time I have got new bearings and seals I should have the adapter plate and a clutch.
Also what tail shaft should I be going with? I'm assuming the stock one wouldn't hold up too well with a T5? What about the gearbox?
I've read up that a 240 diff is an easy plant into the current rear end, considering I don't have to change the gearbox
Looking forward to some replies and answers

Re: B5234 adaptor plate for an 85 360
i don't know about the guys at 300power but so far the only one i know of who is seriously into putting 5cyl whiteblock into a 300 is Adam (340GLT), so all by all it's a bit of new ground you're on...
adam uses a corvette transaxle + box with a custom adaptorplate, flywheel and 3plate racing clutch, a high spec solution that will handle all the power he wants but for most people it will turn out rather expensive....; another solution i can come up with is an adaptorplate to allow a RWD volvo's gearbox to fit right behind the engine and with a custom propshaft and 240 rear axle.. this will also require fabricating a new tunnel, but when fitting a whiteblock that is the least of your problems.

Well it's only 250 horses so shouldn't be too bad.
I'm guessing the only thing that won't hold up is the tailshaft since apparently it's rubber on the inside? (360glt) definitely need a new clutch, heavy duty should be fine. not sure about box holding up but LSD is a must. all along the way I guess . the only way we can find stuff out is by trial and error eh so I guess alot of blown boxes and snapped axles after then engine is in

Solid steel on a 360, 340s are the ones with the weak breed rubber donuts in the propshaft. Standard setup should be fine with a standard T5, be careful with the diff though, you'll pop the planet gears if you spend a lot of time spinning one wheel, will need a thoughtful driving style. The other potential problem is the coupling between the back end of the prop and the gearbox input shaft, it's a piece of splined tube with 2 pinch bolts, only good enough for BMX cranks IMO, but it may hold up. 240 LSDs have been modified in the past, but require the diff casing to be relived for the massive crownwheel, and the diff-to-crownwheel bolts also need to be ground down.Ld50 wrote:tailshaft since apparently it's rubber on the inside?

Re: B5234 adaptor plate for an 85 360
Thank you for the info John.
So this conversion shouldn't set me back too much to start off with except for time.
Yeah they didn't have any second hand diffs from a 240 in stock when I went to put a deposit on the engine. I'll check again soon.
I saw some pics of that diff conversion.. My thoughts are that the bolts don't necessarily need to be ground down, maybe the housing wall is thick enough at that part? (just a guess) but we'll see when I start putting it in. If I do have to grind the bolts down then I'll make sure they'll never come off either
Anyways thanks heaps, this is a big relief.
One more question at the time being is I need to convert to disc brakes for the rear. Anyone have any suggestions on that? Also what would be good shocks for her. I'm planning on getting diesel volvo springs for front and chopping a coil but not sure on struts, dad says bilstein or eibach but I wouldn't have a clue.
Cheers.

It's not going to be an easy job by any means, but i guess that all depends on your skills ability and pantience, mine are both pretty weak so wouldn't attempt something like that
If you haven't seen Adams thread it's here: http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... =13&t=7900
It's a long old read but most informative and it'll probably answer some of your questions.

Re: B5234 adaptor plate for an 85 360
Thanks, just had a quick read through that, have to get ready for work soon.
Seems like he is doing ALOT of fabrication work. Hopefully it won't be necessary for me.
The engine should be coming next week so I can get started and put some pictures up.
Cheers.

Re: B5234 adaptor plate for an 85 360
My engine arrived yesterday
I went to take a look at it, it's out of a v70. It says b5234t3 so I'm guessing that's a t5? It doesn't come with a turbo so I'm kinda sketched out.
I found out later that day that to find out if it's the R version the injectors will be yellow?
Dad's picking it up tomorrow if he can make it there after work, I'll have a build thread started next week sometime.
