360 choke return problem

Post by BA Baracus » 13 Dec 2010 01:55 pm

Hi,
I have a slightly impractical problem with my 360 GLE.
The choke cable went very stiff especially during this cold weather, it is now back to normal again when pulling it out however the choke will not return when using the cable/handle. I can obviously return in manually on the carb itself.
I havent had chance to investigate properly yet but I guess (or hope) that its some simple thing, maybe somethings got disconnected?

Its a Solex 34/34 carb if that helps.

Any suggestions appreciated.
Cheers
Mike

The outer sheath can get disconnected at either end. There is a simple clip at the carb that is easy to fix, not sure what is at the steering wheel end but probably a permanent mechanical crimp or something. If its not the carb end you take off the plastic cover around the choke so you can return the choke form inside the car by holding the outer sheath.

Ok a had a look and everything is still connected fine.
I took the covers off under the dash and it turns out that when I push the choke back in, the cable (and the outer sleeve) bends and therefore doesnt push the inner cable back through.
The cable obviously needs some lubrication, but how do you do this? Similar principal to bike brake cables etc I assume?

Cheers

Yes just take it off and pour some lube down between the inner and outer, then work it backwards and forwards a bit.
