I believe its F7R/F7P he's got. Was wondering about a custom prop myself. I know a mate who knows a mate etc etc that does them. Might like into it.

What condition are the props in your getting? what power is it putting out? More importantly, what torque?

i'm using an f7p on a 1.4 box ands its very torqie. i have used the 1.7 box but it bogged down when skidding.

i'm getting a costom one made at where i used to work andwe are using the original prop but are going to try a more heavy duty rubber. they haven't been the best of conditions but its pretty impossible to find a 340 prop as it is. but i dont want to get another one because they have proven to be very unreilable for me lol and i don't fancy breaking down again just from changing gear.

i was just curious if any one had sloved the problem.

1.4 and 1.7's gearboxes are the same, only difference inbetween those engine's and even modelyears is the diff ratio.

if you're killing props it's time to carefully take a look at this checklist:

- are the front engine mounts in o.k. condition?
- are the rear engine mounts in o.k. condition?
- sits the engine straight in the engine bay?
- are the front gearbox mounts in o.k. conditon ?
- are the rear gearbox mounts in o.k. condition ?

now remove the 2 propshaft bolts at the clamps
you should be able to move the prop up and down over the driveshafts easaly. if it seems to be stuck, loosen up the rear engine mounts and re-align the engine untill you can move it with ease.

and clutchkicking is also a killer for props!, simply learn to drift without it. trust me it takes much more skill but once you master it it's king

+1 on volvodspec's list. I've run an F7R for over a year with not many problems. I've got a load more torque than your engine too. You shouldn't need to clutch kick with an F7P, especially with a 1.4 diff.

Seconded, mine bust a prop and a bellhousing which as far as I can tell so far is due to the rear sag of my engine mounts. Get a protractor, a magnet and a bit of string with a mass (and some araldite) and measure angle of your gearbox ip shaft and clutch op shaft.

I killed one when sliding on wet tarmac, I hit a dry patch at WOT and it gripped suddenly. (195/50 R15).

Wasn't there a group of guys who had some custom props made somewhere? Not from the UK if I remember correctly. Ended up sending them back for some reason and I didn't hear any more.

Think they were paying around £150 a prop?

i was one of them.

was €350 a prop.

and they didn't work as they were impossible to balance by the manufacturer. on their testing equipment it balanced perfectly; under the car and with a bit of torque going through it the whole car started vibrating etc. it was impossible to drive.

one of the guys has succesfully converted a 244 propshaft, consisting of 2 different axles with an extra joint in the middle. works a treat!
i've got the same thing planned in the future but untill now my stock props are doing well, and i drift on dry tarmac with 195/50/15 and welded diff. good engine/gearbox mounts and all the above from my checklist and you'd be amazed how this lengthenes the lifespan.

Are new engine mounts still available anywhere?

few guys are busy with reproducing them, as OEM replacements and uprated (poly); don't know where they're at...

what are you breaking? Is it the clamp, the rubber/Al clamp or the tube?

Clamp has to be torqued accurately.

Agree on the other points about engine and gearbox mounts, the whole thing will try to twist up like a rope in a Z shape, hence the 360 torque tube design. It will be alot worse if Engine and Gearbox are not accurately aligned.
