300 series drift cars

Post by scratterdan » 01 Mar 2011 11:50 pm

right i am new here so i don't want to start any trouble lol.
i am going to star doing drift days and track days this yea and i really fancy a 3oo series. i love the way they look when lowered on some nice 7jx13 minilites. and im fed up with all the sierras, bmws and capris i see. where's the Volvo love at????
i don't own one as of yet so where is the best place to start? the car whilst being a drifter will be pampered loads ( i love my cars) so no worries there.
do i go for a 1.4, 1.7 or a 2.0 360?
what are the week points? are the diffs strong? gearboxes? engines?
all help and advice is appreciated .

In a word no, but that depends how it's driven.
I feel i drive mine quite hard but obviously if you do full rev clutch dump starts/clutch stamp drifts you're going to break something!

It would appear the biggest weakness is the prop, most people with uprated engines have done atleast one myself included, but some seem to be forever breaking them then just give up on the car and selling it a few months later as a wreck :?

Take from that what you will :)

Whats the matter with the car i'm driving can't you tell that it's out of style?

360 is what you need if you're gonna be skidding it mate. Much stronger drivetrain than a 340. 340's run a propshaft and the 360 a torque tube.

The way you describe is how I treat my car. Drive it hard, skid it, but keep it shiny. 8)

Indeed. I just weighed a B19 (2.0 carb) in yesterday.

Running gear change is a fairly big deal, but not impossible. The biggest hassle is the engine mounts. They bolt to the chassis rails on the 360 (captive nuts). So you need to drill the holes on a 340 and then get someone with skinny girly arms to hold the nut on.

Ask Filthyjohn if you are thinking of going this route, he and Jikovron converted one of Johns 340's. if you do though you will most likely also need a full 360 for the loom and other bits and bobs and will work out loads cheaper - then weigh the fucker in and get your money back. 8)
