Advice oh please!
Re: my topic on the main discussion bit, my beloved Volvo has just passed its MOT but they dont know if it will next year due to rusted rear jacking points (that now actually move when wiggled and I've been told not to use them) and rust beginning on the rear leaf suspension on one side. Can this be fixed, should I give up on my baby of 7 years? Any advice welcome!

nope, if its just gone thru then waxoil it thouroughly drive it for another year, take it back and ask them again. it might well be that the rust doesnt get worse if you've waxoiled it

The rear jacking points are a bit of a weak point really. I never trust them, and on a car of their age, I don't think they should really be used if corrosion is an issue. It's best if you can to use a trolley jack on a stronger part of the car, but in an emergency wheel change that's not possible! It's all a bit thin around there tbh, and once one bit fails they collapse, but it doesn't mean then end! I've had one repaired, although my Uncle is a very good welder! It's just finding something strong enough and thick enough to weld it to. Don't give up on it!

LOL, well, he's a very useful chap to know. I'd like to learn to weld to a good standard, at the moment I've only played as it were, and I'd probably overdo it and end up going straight through panels on a 300! So some practice is to be attempted before I set about restoring two of my 300's! I expect a garage will weld or attempt to repair it, but probably at a big cost, really as long as it passes the MOT, I'd not worry too much about using them.
