Mystery boot unlatching

Post by ebdl » 26 Mar 2006 01:14 pm

I promise this is the last question for the moment

I've been told that the boot on my car sometimes unlatches itself while you're driving along. Not so much as to fly open, but caught on the safety. I think it happened on my way home yesterday, but I think it slammed shut again when I bounced over a speed bump so by the time I got out it was properly shut again.

It's supposedly been checked by a Volvo dealer who couldn't find anything wrong - and it seems to open, close and lock OK when I mess around with it. The key for the boot is different to the doors, which suggests to me that the lock's been replaced at some point.

Any bright ideas?

Many, many thanks,

Hmm, I wonder if the striker plate needs adjusting??

Perhaps the boot is being shut too tight on the seals meaning it is only just catching the full lock and allowing it to spring back?

Just a thought.......
