Things that go clunk

Now that summer is here and I'm riding around with my rear quarter windows ajar allmost constantly, I've started hearing a rather disconcerting rattle while going over bumps. I can't get the noise rocking the car, only driving. It sounds kind of metallic. Is this my wheel bearings? Anyone else had this?
Cheers

50p says it's a suspension bushing.

Actually, now you mention that I remember something similar happening with an mk3, only much louder. That was the rear too.
I think a trip to Kwik Fit for a free use of their ramp and a diagnosis!
I guess now is the time to think about that suspension upgrade...
Cheers Fogster!

Most unlikely to be wheel bearing, they will rumble rather then knock.
but here's a few things to try.
If from rear look for:-
loose exhaust,
broken damper mount,
rotted damper shroud loose,
spring bushes/shackles,
On B14/B172 I have known a stone lying on top of the fuel tank take ages to find - that rattled over bumps.
If from front look for:-
worn anti roll bar bushes,
worn/broken anti roll bar links,
broken coil on spring.
Mac.

Hi Mac - or should I call you Yoda?
Thanks for the suggestions. The noise is coming from the back. Pretty sure it's not the exhaust as I've given that a damn good shake and heard nothing. Suspension sounds more likely.
I'm glad it's not the bearings after the stories I've heard about them being glued in place (most un-Volvo like!)

Hi Ronnie. I hear a familiar sound kind of knocking kind of metalic when i'm pushing iyt hard on left turns. The noise is coming from the right but i'm not sure if it is from the front or the back suspension. I think is from the front. It is olso getting stronger when i go to the brakes while cornering

Mac.
Either that or it's got something to do with your mods!
Good luck with it.
Couldn't see anything wrong with my suspension set up on the ramp, and can't replicate the noise unless actually driving. The shocks look old though, probably original i.e 20 years old...
Dai you have PM!!!
