We all know the issue with the track-rods/track-rod ends with the power steering models but I went to Volvo with intention to buy both track-rods and track-rod ends for a model without power steering and their answer was that both parts are discontinued.
Luckily those are available as aftermarket parts but I suspect the quality if the part is not german... I've got bad experiences with italian steering and suspension parts.
Though usually it might've been the fault of lack of grease. It's always good to check how much grease has been applied to the joint from the factory because there's much variation. Though hopefully there are other brands than italian available also.
Lower ball joints were still available at Volvo, made by TRW Germany, price 72 euros a pair.
I'm still going to confirm from another Volvo dealer if it really is the case they've discontinued those track-rod/track-rod ends but sadly I think it is true.
Few people from 300Power.com have been in touch with the GCP about the lack of 300-series parts but the answer from GCP was
Anledningen till att vi inte har några 300 eller 400 delar beror på något avtal som Volvo har med Holländska staten.
Tyvärr så finns det inget vi kan göra åt saken.
Which is freely translated something like this
Reason for the fact that we don't have any 300- or 400-series parts available is because Volvo has some contract with the Holland so we can't really do anything about it.
Sounds quite odd that Holland Volvo or anybody else would be anymore interested if plans/parts/molds are reproduced by some other company for so old car models.. Maybe the GCP just doesn't want to include 300-series and give that as an excuse, who knows...
