Chris' Rant about Volvo
Ok, this was my fix 4/5 months ago on the bottom hose, just a rubber elbow that I cut the long straight bits off of, then cut the orig hose, and replaced the perished bit. This ment I had 2 6" lengths of straight left over, that I kept for a rainy day. With a plastic joiner, and was going to replace the hose in sections as bits perished. I never posted up piccies of this one before, as the elbow replaced is hidden under alternator.
Joiner next to oil filter
So, Top hose that I did on Sat. Found out that a silicon corner bit costs the same as a rubber one, so meh, might as well. It feels a lot more sturdy, but I guess time will tell. Basically exactly the same as I did before, cut out the bit of perished hose, and as more perishes, I'll replace a bit at a time (else I'll become a poor Chris very quickly...) Trying to cut the rubber stuff straight isn't the easiest job, I've tried stanley knife, hacksaw and mitre box now. All do a fine job, and a bit of wiggles is taken up by the plasic joiny bits anyway. If I feel like going bling, I might get some ali joiners, but I'm worried about transmitting vibration to the rad tbh with the amount my engine shakes
Glad I kept those 6" bits from the rubber hose, forgot that the top hose needed a bit of extending at the stat housing end, will replace with silicon at some point, maybe... but works well enough.

You mean custom made correct sized without loads of joiners? Possible, but doubt anyone (well, Samco I guess) would take it on. To do the lot the way I've started you're looking at ~£50 per 1.7 rad hose (as they are huge).

DT site is down for maintenance, but I don't trust the flexi universal stuff. Just do piece by piece like I am mate, they normally only perish in one place at a time

Yea, but i have rather a big piece gone its the long fat one! its all saggy at either end and a big sag in the middle. i think we can all rely on volvo to not have the hoses.
(lol iwas wondering why your engine bay looked sooo big , no spare and airbox isnt there. doh)
iam going to try get some hose sorted in the next few days, get something done lol still need to fix the brakes!
Cheers

Take the airbox out to do the job, it's only 2 screws, a nut and a reusable cable tie! I just rested it on the airfilter then.
