Not sure how much work to de-marinise one-but y'all need summit with a geet big bonnet to fit one of them-if I remember right those Volvo penta's are based on big block Ford V8's.
I've got a small block Ford and believe me there ain't much small about it

7.4 could mean it's based on 460 cube big block so plenty of parts avail from Stateside.

Marine engines are rubbish nothing worse than pumping salt water through the water ways constantly.

Ive recently rebuilt the engine in my drag car. 1974 460ci Ford V8, +30 thou forged pistons, shot peened and balanced rods, balanced crank, ported and polished 1971 heads, edelbrock manifold and holley carb.

Made 530bhp and 400ft/lbs torque......noice....

Wouldnt be any good in a 360 without building a complete new tube chassis, as they weigh more than 700lbs.

Yamah...ehm I mean new Volvo S80 V8 engine should be lighter and smaller, would be nice to put such engine in, but still I would prefer something lighter, for example Caterham SR8 engine, it has some power and it weights next to nothing.

As I asked the other day, would the V8 from an XC90, (presumably the same as the S80 one) bolt straight up to the gearbox of a 360 using the 5cyl adapter parts available from Sweden? Obviously there'd still be issues with engine mounts and space in the engine bay, but just on the connection side it may be easy...

I don't know if the XC90 V8 uses the same drive train MJ, could be like the 340/360 thing, would have to be looked into.

Just run a big tank of fresh water under the bonnet, save having to rinse out the engine after every run like the boat owners would have to!

Oh yes, good point. It would seem very inefficient to do such things these days, and I think the 300 thing was probably due to Volvo thinking it's be an easer way of getting a Volvo engine in, after starting with Renault ones. Although if the V8 was developed by another company they may do the same.

Thinking about it, the 5cyl is in the Focus ST170, so there must be some compatibility with Ford, so hmm, maybe it's a Ford V8, which would be understandable. Hmm, what a load of thoughts... Someone will know more anyway.

That Focus with Volvo engine has quite lot of differencies compared to other Focus cars, it has been made compatible with Volvo engine. Not even close to similar compatibility as Renault engines in 340 and PRV in Safrane / 760 / DeLorean...

A V8 would kill the gearbox the first time you put your foot down. Would sure be interesting though and would sound awesome.

Never I have heard how it sounds when gearbox splits to half at 1st gear, but something like that would indeed happen if clutch won't just slip horribly

New box and new powerline needed, one from Porsche 928 should do as it has V8 originally, hmm, Porsche V8

Some do like from that sound more indeed, however for me there is only V8 or I-6 diesel (ever heard 1000hp Cummins on boost?) fighting from best sounding engine title :P

Oh come on, if we're talking about good sounding engines then there's no contest - the Rolls Royce 27litre V12 supercharged engine more commonly known as the Merlin.
