Volvo 300 parts quiz

Post by trabitom99 » 08 May 2007 01:31 pm

Last night I unpacked one of the parts boxes I got with my new GLT:

and there are a couple of bits I can't identify. Anyone want to hazard a guess?

Pic 1

I'm not sure of all the top row. AFAIK the bottom bits are blanking plates (either for where the manual mirror adjuster would normally go or for headlamp wipers), the plastic cover is the wrapping for the snowcap and that clip thing is probably for the HT leads.

Another sensor? No idea what the plastic bits in the tin are ...

Pic 3 :?:

It took me a while to figure out what this was for:

It's meant to be for a quicker warmup in winter, and to stop snow & grit from getting through the grille. Won't be needing that part much, if last year's winter is anything to go by.

Nice parts! Never seen that grille cover before...

The unknown parts in Pic 2 look like coolant temp sensors to me

Now you mention it, that may be what those plastic bits in the tin (Pic2) are for: holding the grille cover in place ...

Many of the parts are used ones, in their original boxes (wheel bearings, thermostat, water pump, solenoid for the starter) but I suppose that's an indication of which parts have been replaced in the car's lifetime.

You might recognise this one, Pete:

That's the one featured in the Mk3 brochures. Not especially pimp though :-)

It is a water heater or parking heater. At least it says in the manual that i have. And also i have one of those. I'm going to fit it before winter.

Perhaps some kind of petrol heater or something, my france is not good, never got around even with basics so I can only guess those words.

Petrol heaters that heat up coolant by burning petrol fuel are quite common in colder climate and specially in modern diesel cars.

Edit: right, D24 is making me slow, beaten by fellow finn

Part 5 in the second catalogue is indeedly pimp I'll have you know!!! I agree, the 8 plastic bits are to hold it on, I've never even seen that pic before! Certainly wouldn't take up the space my one does!

Yes that's it, a petrol pre-heater for the engine and the interior. Very cosy in -20° climates ... sm35

Definitely more pimp than the floppy fold-up version, I'd agree with you on that one :-)

The grey clips are indeed for the old-style radiator muff - I have one myself. It's for the mk2 grille.

The black oblong blanking plugs look like mk2 bumper bolt covers.

We've also got two coolant temp sensors (one for the gauge, the other for LE-Jet?) for the cylinder head.

cheers

That sensor with longer tip could be temp/time switch type, so it is actually on/off, reacts to temp and gives information from engine temp so that injection ecu can come of from enrichment mode.

Had one in one of my spare cylinder head, I do have few ;)

Well if any of you other Brits could be arsed to expand your horizons you'd have seen that grille cover before as Foggy, Andy and I brought one back from Deutschland last October........
