Does anyone know where i can get a black carpet?
and lastly How hard is a Fi conversion on a carbed 1.7?

looking forward to getting more involved as my car progresses?

Hey Mate

Bodykit is very rare, however Dave (volvorsport) makes a replica kits, just send him a message and im sure he'll get back to you.

The bumper grills are of a 340 variomatic (automatic) so try a scrappy for those.

What main grill you after? The hella grill is also rare.

Cant say i've tried removing the wiper motor.

Hope i've helped.

Cheers

Jay

From memory the wiper motor is a a drop the bumper and the light... not as scary as it sounds, 8-10 bolts in all I seem to remember (I've prolly forgotten something though ;))

iirc, the wiper motors come out without needing to remove the headlight. Even if you need to remove the lights, they only have 4 bolts so it's not big task. Bumper off is an easy one, just 4 bolts and slide it off. It's all self explanatory after that but if you get stuck I can mock up the parts on my scrapper and take some photos for you.

I found it a lot easier to remove the bumper and the headlights too to delete my headlamp washers, as they're screwed into the bottom of the headlamp assembly. It's not difficult, just takes a bit of patience.

If you really want to convert to FI you're probably better swapping to a complete hot Renault engine as Adam and others on here have done.

if you wnated to fit efi you would need the head off a 440 and all the ecu and wiring loom including the sensors. It can be done but a lot work of for little improvment.

fitting efi does not give power gain but can give more consistent fueling than a carb. Fitting the 16v lump is a cheapish power upgrade if you like the way 16v engines perform.
You could go the 1.7 turbo option or drop in a 2ltr from a 400.

If you want stealth the 2ltr lump or working the head and cam or your original engine si teh way to go.

It all depends on what way you want to go and how much you are willing to spend.

wat kind of bang for buck are we talkin form a new cam and some porting and polishing of the head on my 1700?

also would it be safe to increase the CR, and would the standard carb be enough if it were re-jetted?

TBH doing engine work is expensive. Before considering a cam or porting you need a good exhaust system and possible improve the air in side of things.

Exhaust wise you will want a 2" strait through system a stainless full system will set up back about £275 or you could maybe have a mild one buit for less than that. For me it made quite a difference. The maniflod is quite restrictive - I do have a 440 manifold and custom pipe to fitit to the 340 off mine as I've now gone one step further and had a 4 branch built.

On to the air in side there is not a great deal you can do without major work. Twin webbers would give good resuts or if you were going efi than the injection manifold does flow better than the carb one.

You cant skim the head realy to raise the CR on a 1.7 as there is no combustion chamber in the head its fluch with the valves.

If you are staying with the stock carb or similar replacment then a cam could be worth considering before hand. The best bet would be to have your one reground but keep in mind that you will loose a little low down power to gain top end.

so where is the best place to get a 2" exhaust system and better flowing manifold?
On th induction side i was thinking more of a single 45 and looking at having a customer manifold fabricated.
But then again all this sounds like it could be adding up and begs the question of why not spend it on a 16v conversion!

is there any other options that i could bear in mind?

also to add to my first post i'm looking for the smae grill as adam has on his black one.

The 2ltr makes 120BHP with the cat and std 440 exhaust.so with the cat dumped and a better exhaust you should get good results.

If you fit the 16 valve lump you will need to upgrade the exhaust anyway so would be worth doing first. I can arrange one for you if you want but please let me know asap. I also have my old manifold available if you want that.

I think Adam now has a std GLT grill fitted.
