Okay then, the tax runs out at the end of the month, so it's time for major work on the black GLT. I have big plans for the old girl, including some rust repairs, suspension, brakes, and an engine swap.
I thought I'd keep track of the work in here and since I've had so much help from this very friendly forum, see if I can be any help to other folk doing similar jobs. I'll be taking lots of pictures and I can write 'how-to' articles on specific things if anyone wants.

Here's how she looked when I got my grubby paws on her:

First modification :P :

Added a towbar from a saloon (far too long)

Then I decided it needed nicer wheels:

Anyway, enough waffle and on with the first job.

After:

Found some rust on the driver's side top mount which will need to be dealt with:Image

There's a lot more to come and hopefully I'll be updating regularly :D

Cheers Guys,
John.

I cant see the pics as I'm at home but I will look later.

Glad you are posting all the work you are doing on here.

If we get the project car forum up and going would be good to transfer this thread there :D

Just finished fitting my strut brace, courtesy of Ali (whose fabricating is really top notch sm4 ):

More to come, little bits at first and then more when the tax runs out this month.

Nice work... excellent wheel choice, amazing what a nice set of alloys can do :D

I like it man !! Good components choice !!!

Have you noticed the rear strut bar ? ( less body roll, more stiffness, more tendency to oversteer, etc )

Thanks a lot !!

Regards

That does look good.

I will once again point out that rear strut bars (well sort of as the 300 does not have struts) will not help handling or suspension alighnment as the tower is only for the dampers and nothing else. However they do look good and can make a good point for fixing race harnesses to.

Its also good to see a 360 towing :D

Thanks for the positive comments guys! There really is a lot more to come a.s.a.p if I can iron out a few engineering/fabricating headaches.
Lets just say the B200 has outstayed its welcome... sm49

She tows like a train, you'd hardly know there was a car on the back (even if one were to 'exceed' the stated towing capacity of 1200kg  ) The way I see it, anything a b200 240 can tow, I can tow faster

My brother once towed a 245 with spare engine in the back using his old works GLS :o

It did not tow so great but got the job done. The big problem was not enough nose weight on the trailor
