Hello, i've been on here a couple of times before and just got round to signing up.
The cable to the rear demister in my 340 is bodged togeather. I guess it's been caught in the boot at some stage. Seeing as i'm using the boot a lot and winter is coming; Is it possible to by a new cable with adaptor to fit and if so, Is it worth sourcing it back and replacing the whole thing or just replace the last section?
Does anyone know what i'm on about?

From memory there is power in to one end of teh window and an earth cable on the other.
If thats what youa re refering to the connectors are std so it would be easy to replace.

Make sure you use teh correct gauge wire

Thx. I'll have a look. Hopefully it's the earth end, but i don't think it is. :(
Only the suspension and a few bits of trim to sort out after this and then i'm going to start on the body work. Maybe i should start a project car thread?

Hello, the cables close to the hinges for the hatch break easily at this point because they go stiff and have to flex a lot. Mine have gone several times on both sides. It helps to use connectors to put in a short length of new wire to reduce the amount of bending that the stiff old wires have to endure. Cheers, bogbasic.

Right. Managed to rewire one side. The other was wrapped up in a lot of electrical tape. The connection on the passenger side was pretty badly repaired with a crimp connector, so i expected the worst.
When i got the miles of cable off i found about four (?) wires, with each end in a plastic sleeve. These felt quite lumpy, so i expected bad connectors again.
It turns out these had been soldered reasonably well in the past, so i covered each connection with some new tape and then re-loomed the whole lot logeather. I haven't bothered on the otherside.

It's all good. :D

Quick update. Rear demister is working. woohoo. But whilst in the urban death maze of sheffield i slipped off a kerb reversing out of a car park entrance (don't ask) and landed on the chassis rail. Need to get under there and hammerite it before it rains... Bugger.

Edit. It's rained all day. Also noticed that my wheel trim is fooked... Bugger.

ouch. thats bad news.

dont worry too much about the rain just give any metal a quick sand and get some rust treatment stuff on there asap! then the underseal.

i need to take a look at my demister as i think it may not be working? :? or maybe its just not been used in a while.

hope the cars not too bad

Right, got under her yesterday, damage wasn't anywhere near as bad as i expected, just a bit dented and a few scratches. Most of the underseal was intact too so it'd be a waste of time to do alot really. So out with the hammerite black and a good coating where the shiny bits came through. Yes, shiny bits.
Also gave her a wash today and all is good.
Still considering changing my non-volvo tape player to a kenny cd player i have laying around somewhere. I just don't want to pull it out to discover 'alternative' wiring behind my dash.
Also, my radio is connected live i.e. even when the engine is off key out.
Is this normal?

Even if the radio looms not been hacked, there's no DIN connector behind the radio, it's an OEM volvo one. Autoleads sell an adapter, but I've always soldered an adapter from the mini adapter volvo use (there are so many different headunits in 300's and most arn't the same as the same as the loom plug) and a random ISO plug, either laying round or scrounged from a scrappy as I'm tight ;)

Yeah, i know there's no DIN. Just wondered if the radio would be permanent live if connected with an adaptor, but i suppose it depends on the radio and the adaptor. :roll:
Guess i'll have to get 'custom'.
