I've never done it but its not that hard to do. I was thinking of using a mini supercharger on the 1.7. The biggest problem will be getting the fueling right but such through supercharges is quite easy compared to blow through turbo

I think the fuelling is the least of your troubles.
Supercharger + home made brackets = potential for endless belt alignment issues.

Thin mecano brackets won't cut it. You will need substantial brackets and a means of adjusting the alighnment.

its not that supercharging it is particularly harder (in fact it has the potential to be much much simpler) the above points are merely to provoke thought about the effort and accuracy involved in such a custom project, as if making a custom bracket or 2 scares you then consider the work in a custom turbo job!
If I was you then I would probably undertake an engine swap to either the renault 16v or maybe stick in the 400 series turbo as this is a swap most of the clio guys do for more power in their valvers! If you are going the 16v turbo route then consider giving ktec tuning a call to find out whats involved as they do full scale conversions and fabricate loads of bits.
It is much easier to swap in a turbo motor and modify it to increase the boost than turbo a stock NA engine as all the sensors wiring and stock ecu exist to prevent pinking etc
just my 2 cents
cheers
Jason

The issue with the turbo conversion you will need a maniflod making. I dont like the idea of fuel going through a hot turbo but ppl do do it.
Jason has a valid point. How about using a 1.7 turbo engine without the turbo and fit a supercharger?

I have ben involved in fitting superchargers to a ford v6 and zetecs, but these have been eaton style positive displacement chargers. They have all suffered with belt problems to some extent. Centrifugal blowers dont seem to be as fussy though. I went the 440 turbo route, which I think was probably easier, but if you have a rotorex already, I'd be tempted to try it, should make a realy nice revy 16v with plenty of torque.
