My car is sick. :(
Drove my car to work yesterday, went fine on the way there but when i went to leave it would idle really rough and as soon as the throttle was applied it would die, all the consumables are good, so i'm thinking it might be fuelling related, any one had similar problems with their 360 glt with a b200e motor?
I'm going to go back and try and sort it out now, but i anyone has had similar sympotms and has a suggestion please let me know.

I've had similiar problems with B200E one or two times, mostly at the winter time and it seems to be completely random.. I usually get it to run at 3000rpm with almost full throttle, anything else and it dies.. Then it goes away when I let it run for awhile, usually there's a loud bang before that so I think it's getting way too much fuel..
Of course it could also be a big intake leak so check that there are no intake leaks between the engine and the air flow meter, for example loose breather pipe or similiar.

Now you mention... that does described what my b172 does...
Mine does after a hard blatt normally, then if I only use first choke, nothing, but when I use second choke its fine. So I get an all or nothing power effect, and digital driving.
I've always thought it was blocked jets on the first choke, but I've had the thing apart most times and nothing. One thing I found though, for a quick fix, is pouring redex done the chokes cured it. Fine, but that doesn't effect the jets.
What I think is happening (after my mate was watching my econ gauge when it happened on thursday, it sat on the red side pin all the time this was happening) is I have a vacuum leak before my restrictor. Reasoning... econ gauge should no vacuum... should then cause the renix to get confused, think I'm at WOT, and only spark as such. So spark would be well about at low throttle, but at WOT, vacuum will be at atmospheric anyway, so mixture and timing is correct, as RPM still being fed to renix.
Only thing I'm not sure of is if that really would affect the power that much, but it would certainly give the effect of a blocked jet if so. Now to find the *intermittant* leak

Fuse got it in one, somehow the intake pipe had come completely of the back of the airflow meter and was just resting against it. spotted it as i was loseing off the fuel filter to make sure i was getting fuel. couldn't see it the first night as it was dark and i was usingmy mobile as a torch.Fuse wrote:

Thanks for the help everyone.
On the 1.7 Dai? The vacuum tap in on the carb base, right above the inlet, so the renix feels full vacuum surely?classicswede wrote:On tickover the vaccum for the renix is blocked off by the butterfly

You've got an intermittent air leak. Mind you, has it done it since we put the correct bolts on the carb?
IIRC Dai's right, the Renix feed is on the carb above the throttle butterfly. If you've got a vacuum, leak that will cause a weak mixture and poor running, nothing to do with Renix. When you put foot down hard, the manifold vacuum equalises and the air goes through where its supposed to
Glad you fixed yours Dalahare.

On the 1.7 carb if the look at the seating ring of the butterfly with it open you will see a tiny hole. That is where the vaccum for the renix comes from off memoryChris_C wrote:On the 1.7 Dai? Hmmm, ok, I'l go check when I get home, just to prove myself wrong.
Andy, yes, it has done it since we re bolted the carb, bit's doing it more and more of late. Thinking about it, it's only done it since I grp'd the hot air spaceman tube, wonder if that has another intermittant leak. hmmm, all my vacuum hoses are old now anyway, and could be suspect.
