stil losing oil

Post by outlaw22 » 20 Nov 2007 02:51 pm

after repairing the two gaskets that were aged and caused my engine to leak,i was happy to see no oil drop under the car for a long time.untill a few days ago when i saw that the tube from the oil separator (oil sep.-carb.) was cracked! after fixing it ,drove the car for a while ,parked it and when i got back to it a saw a lake of oil under it!!!the only cause could be very high pressure in the sump.....knowing that ,i've made a cut in the tube, about 2cm long, drove the car,and surprise no more leaks!!!!!!
can anyone tell me what's the cause of that?????could it be something in the carb???? or the tube missplaced(i wasn't the only owner and the car had it's share of lousy mechanics)does anyone have some schematics of the carb tubing or pics (other than the green books ),i'm interested in the part with the recirculating fumes from the sump to the carb ,because on my car the tube was changed for shure and don't know if that was carried out corectly. pls help me!!!!!!!in the green books i saw a drawing related to that but it's not too conclusive

Hello, I think you mean the rubber hose that goes from the rocker cover to the carb?? There is a plastic restriction in this which can get blocked by soot so might be worth cleaning it out. I really cannot understand why this would cause a big oil leak, but I suppose it might??!! Where does the oil leak from? I have heard of the pressure relief valve in the oil pump failing but this normally blows up the oil filter. Best wishes, bogbasic.

the circuit that i'm talking about starts on the engine block(on my engine)
forgot to say that the car is a 340 dl, and the engine is a b172k,and the recovery for the fumes is not on the rocker cover, but on the engine block!
and after cuting the hose it didn't leak(it was leaking at the rocker cover an much more places, spit out the oil control rig)

Hello, Does it leak when the engine is on or off? Could be the head gasket leaking or cylinder head cracked and steam pressure forces oil out??

it leaks when the engine is on and shortly after stoping it.i was thinking that someone who repaird the car before it got to me ,misplaced the hose(placed it on the wrong entry to the carb.)an that's why the pressure is building up forceing oil out ,or if the oriffice is jammed the same thing will happen.could u send ma a pic of the hose corectly mounted?
pls....
i can use all the help i can get......
....cause u know.....if u want somethin well done , do it yourself!!
and after cracking the hose,no more hiperpressure,no more leaks, that's why i think it's something in the carb

Sorry, I don't have a 1.7 to take any pictures of. Perhaps someone else can help. I would check if the hose is blocked. Best wishes, bogbasic.

i've identified the problem.the original hose came with a splitter (that my car didn't have)one end goes to the carb, one tho the air filter, one to the oil separator.(i thought the conection to the filter was in the carb, that was before i saw the original conection on other 340 dl
:D
thx for suport!
