Final drive.

Post by beetlebum2_uk » 02 Dec 2007 11:43 am

Is it possible to just change the final drive in a 340 gear box?

only asking for reference if i go down the tuned 16v route would be good to have longer legs at the top end!

anyone?

I'm sure the final drive as per most Volvo's is 1 - 1

Your best bet would be a taller diff

I think the carb 360s had the most long-legged diffs, something like 3.26 or 3.36 ...

Tis indeed! You'll notice the second gear hole a lot more with a 3.36, I notice it more in a 3.64 vs a 3.8x.

I do, but I can almost remember all the options.

Unless you're using this setup on the motorway all day, I'd stick with the 3.82, seriously. It's ideal for a revvy NA motor which is relatively lacking in power. Save the big gears for something with bags of torque.

I've just gone from a 3.36 (standard 360 carb) to a 3.82 (340 1.4 5 speed) in my 360, and it's a big improvement when driving 'for fun'.

cheers
