340 1.7 HT Leads.

Post by Alex. » 17 Dec 2007 10:15 pm

Hi Guys,

We recently tried to service my wifes 1990 1.7 340, all was fine apart from the HT leads. Halfords cannot supply a set of leads and have individual leads that mode than double the total price! We finally got the right shaped leads from the local motor factors and they fitted OK.

Unfortunately, cold starting was then very poor - problem solved by going back to the old leads! I thought we were preventing problems not causeing them!!

As Volvo have stopped supplying leads for these cars, where is the best place to try and source good quality HT leads?

Ta for any help.

Alex.

They may still be available from Renault, anyone know? (the 1.7 is a Renault engine)

Welcome to the forums by the way :)

You mean to say Volvo have now got down to deleting the consumable parts such as HT leads......... ok, enough is enough. I spoke with Foggy, Steve and Dave on Sunday on this subject. I may have something cunning up my sleeve. I'm half considering studying law as something to do as a laugh, but in the mean time, I think I've got some areas covered when it comes to lifetime care!

Good luck with both of those points mate... Guy on the VOC basically said the other day that the lifetime care they paid out on with a percentage loss per age of part, so I'm guessing is pretty much useless on anythingover 5/10 years :( But hey, worth a try!

Fwiw, I got a set of leads from halfords about 12months ago, was it not just the monkey being an idiot? I'm not sure if a 400 dizzy will fit, but there are magnecour leads availible for the 400 series, which *should* (from memory) be the same fit dizzy end, the only difference I think is that the connectors are inline on the 400, and at 90degs on the 340. I've got both caps at home, remind me to check if I don't reply! Magnecours were about 60quid though, but have a long long long gaurentee

Pete - I hope you mange to get somewhere with Volvo

I can still get 340 leads that are correct from Bosch.

The 440 leads can be fitted but they look naff and there is a chance tehy would rub and get damaged due to incorrect fit.

I can get the Bosch part number if that helps.

Quite a few people on the web do leads - some custom fit jobbies. These people seemed to have what you are after...

Halfords is no longer any good for car parts; they only do the common denominator stuff such as wiper blades for Escorts etc.. Plus if you were being paid minimum wage, and somebody asked you a difficult question [I mean, Volvo 340? What's that!] would you be arsed to check?
