Info about the 100 R-sports
Yeh the R -Sport 1.4 was the one my Dad used to do when he worked for the main dealer..
It wasn't just the exhaust can I add lol..
it came in as a standard GL and left the workshop with the GLT wheels, high lift camshaft and tuned engine (changed carbs jets to larger size).
It was faster but ran more lumpy and drank more fuel
Cheers

Too bad the funky rocker cover on the B19 version didn't make it in to the production version.

Nice pics, Fuse
Maybe I should do a sum-up of those tests. They praise the increase in power, but critisise that the suspension, steering, gearing and instrumentation remained unchanged. "A fast family car yes, a sports car no" seemed to be the overall opinion. Apparently, the standard gear & diff ratios made it overrev at maximum speed on the motorway making the water temperature gauge creep into the red. According to Volvo, max rpm had been increased to 6500 and the increase in engine temperature was of no concern, but I guess I'd still prefer to fit a 5-speed box
There's an interesting post in one of the German forums - someone who worked at Volvo in 1981 describes his experiences with the performance 343s. He loved the R-Sport on country roads, but on the motorway, he says you couldn't drive full throttle without over-revving it. He also says the Oettinger models didn't go down too well with those that bought them, the power output wasn't as good as was claimed and the oil consumption was high. Apparently "nearly all of them were converted back to a standard B14". Whether that's true or not, I don't know.

I sent Nils an Email, he doesn't have the R-Sport anymore. It now belongs to someone who does regular laps of Hockenheim in ittrabitom99 wrote:You might like to contact this chap, Nils:

...the Oettinger 1.6 B14 cylinder head I have is more or less scrap, due to what appears to be foreign body damage...but could be internally derived....make of that what you will

Yesterday I had a long drive. I drove to the coast of Belgium with my MK1 to see an other NK1. And that car would be a 81 DLS with R-sport kit. A complete old rallycar.
You can find the pics over here:

I didn't bought the car. It's a nice base, but a lot of work to get it nice and perfect. Lots of rusty spots. its definitly not a clean car. next to that it was technical very good. Started without any hesitation or anything. The engine had just 90.000km on it. I decided its a to big job for me. Im going to make my own MK1 faster, nicer and more exclusive. It isn't that expencive...so maybe somebody in the UK would like it as a base?
At the end of the day I saw a nice full-spec 340 on the net wich didnt came thrue the MOT(APK over here). And i already needed a rear axle. So in the future my MK1 will have more options than it allready has, even PAS

That looks like an interesting car....shame that it's rusty! Luckily with RHD, we don't need that brake fluid reservoir relocation kit.

That's just a mk2 GLT "Leo" wheel painted white. There's a rumour that the R-Sport versions were marginally wider...but I don't know if that's true.

Speaking about R sport versions, I have tested the first one in my life yesterday. The bodywork was CRAP, the interior is... worst, there is really no word to describe it... But what a nice engine, pulling VERY well!!!!! I will maybe buy the car, remove the engine and R sport kit so I can transfer it to... for example... a white german GLT mk2 for sale on ebay! Oh dear, I'm sick... But it wouldn't be a shame to break the car because the body isn't genuine at all...
EDIT: it's the same car that pistonpen paultje describes above

Hi.
I think it looks like a std. 343 DLS with a mounted R-sport kit!
I can see that there is a roll-cage in it!
How much do you have to pay for such a nice car
My R-sport is now without the cylinder head! Had to take it off because I had to replace the exhaust manifold..... and then there was 3 bolts that snaped in the head
Cheers

I could buy the car alone, without the 360 and parts. Would be interesting, if i could still be able to pay it. (PM me for details) But I cant anymore.Duvel78 wrote:Speaking about R sport versions, I have tested the first one in my life yesterday. That car doesn't look too bad in the pictures Aymat. What's wrong with the bodywork...bad paint? Rust?
It looks like what I'm going to build - an 81 343 'S' with the R-Sport kit added.
cheers
James
