Another part for the discontinued list. 340 throttle cable

Our 1.7's throttle cable snapped a few days back, and an AA man fixed it temporarily, but said we'd have to get the right cable within a week or so, as he hadn't got the right end bit.

Phoned up the local garage today, but they rang back saying that that'd contacted German Swedish French, Euro car parts, Volvo and had no luck in sourcing one... I phoned up a dealer and got the part# (3210703) but that's not much use without a cable :P

Our garage suggested a local company that makes custom cables for beach buggies etc, so that's a possibility, otherwise it's a second hand one, unless anyone else has any ideas...

One last thing, is the throttle cable different for 1.4's, or even 360's?

Thanks

Yes they are different.

I've heard from soemone in teh know that Volvo are dropping big qty's of 300 parts!

We need to get something sorted quick!

MJ, go to a local corner shop/ parade of shops factor. Throttle cables are something that most will keep on the shelf. They usually stock most things like that, but make sure it's something like midnight motors or an indi, not a big chain.

I think you're right Dai....essentially nothing is available any more, beyond service items!

I'm going to start a new thread entitled "300 parts which are, amazingly, still available at Volvo". I think that's the kind of way we'll have to look at the parts situation in future.

There will always be a solution to this problem, it's jsut a matter of wether it will be worth the $$$ to keep these cars going and the downtime worthwhile.

In near on two years of owning my 360 i've never bought anything new for it other than the standard service items.

Well, it seems that the AA man's fix will be fine. :)

It is a pain that more and more parts keep disappearing :(

I used a custom bycicle brake cable as throttle cable for my 343. Cost me €4

We couldn't get the throttle cable off Rory, MJ. It didn't want to separate from the bulkhead...weird?!

I knwo we have talked about this in the past quite a lot.

I don't belive we will ever find a 300 that has been volvo serviced from new todate at the correct intervals and had all recomended work done :( .

IMO you should have to have had your car Volvo serviced to make use of the Lifetime care. There must be a way of pushing it on the principal that these cars are still running and the parts need to be available to continue there life.

It just needs someone to fight it legaly.

To be fair....I actually looked into what Lifetime Care actually consists of....and they don't really commit to anything much, beyond the implied promises. I fear this isn't the route to take....we need them on-side, not as our enemy.
