by sound you are not being very specific, lol. what kind of sound would you like, loud, bassy, clear? I might be able to give you some advice but its pretty hard without a direction.

do you already have a head unit in the car? as you'd most likely find that a set of jbl 6x9's would be pretty loud on a standard head unit!

I have but its the volvo standard. I have got a really old pye one with a set of pre outs so i could use that with a cheap amp. The only other thing is i listen to it it alot with the boot open and this will kill all the bass. I think anyway.

cheers

do you use the car to ferry lots of stuff about? as the sub doesn't have to go in the boot, however if you want cheap then a sub is not the way to go. Look out for a cheap amp with a decent RMS power don't be tempted by a high MAX power, (I have an awesome amp with 170w max power and 150rms and it would eat an ebay special 4000Wmax amp for breakfast!)

As you want cheap then its best to go with a good set of 6x9s or 6.5" speakers as they should provide ample volume if they are well matched to the RMS power of the amp. I reckon that if your old head unit works alright then you may not need an amp (if price is definitely key) as a good 10-15w rms is louder than you'd imagine with decent speakers.

I'd get a cheap amp and sub combo from eBay. A 10" or 12" sub in a decent box will be far more efficient than 6x9s on a shelf, and be less prone to the effects of opening the boot.

cheers
