cool, this is similar to what I have done - though mine can't be layed up for too long and don't want to flush brake fluid until I sort calipers so haven't dropped the crossmember.
Didn't find any rot in the lower spring cups then? my drivers side one was great, but the passenger side had a hole which will be welded tomorrow or monday.
Great work and keep us posted!

If the spring cup on the sturt has started to go you sill best replacing the complete cup rather than patching as it will have gone thin and is likely to colapse

this I know, but no scrappy near me has a 300 (aside from possibly one but they'd charge £100 or something stupid) and as I need to go back to soton within the week I need to get the car back together, I know someone who will weld it for free and I thought I may as well get it fixed so I can drive it back. My plan is to get struts anyway and have them strengthened but I wanted to fit the monos and polybushes this week to see if there is a big difference in handling.

still offtopic, my car is now back on its wheels - dai, you are a jeenioouuss!
By some fluke the monos seem to really match the springs you made for carl and the car is very tidy through turns!! no play in wishbones any more and the radius arm bushes (not from you - read your pm in future!) have solved a lot of my tyre "knife edging" problem under full lock, as the tyres have a much bigger contact patch on turning in. My cornering speed is now much quicker
Thanks
Back on topic....
p.s I shall be strengthening up some struts soon, but I'm sure the welding I had done will hold fine for now

Attention all units. Car last seen on its wheels over a year ago. Has been seen almost on its wheels again.
That temporary steering rack i made is rubbish. I have to figure out something else. Because i'm not sure that should i put a PAS rack in it or non-PAS rack. So for now something temporary is the way for me. Also there is some used parts in the front suspension and i have to take it apart again when i get new parts for it.
So the parts what i need next are:
Monotubes ( Dai, I'll send a pm to you.)
Adjustable rear shocks
Bigger front brakediscs (not sure yet from what car)
everything that is changeable in steering rack
new wheel bearings (bought but i thought that i install them next time when i have the hubs detached)
Solid strut tops ( no point fitting them because i haven't got decent shocks)
I have to get it out of the garage for a while. I have to convert my Granada to run on Megasquirt and the 740 has to be washed and polished properly before summer. And my garage isn't the most biggest in the world.
I think that Granada and 740 are bit of a squeeze to be able to shut the doors. And the aircompressor bought it for the bigger garage but only problem is that it is still on the drawing board.

Parts are just spraypainted. No powdercoaters around here.
About the rack. I was thinking about paying the MOT man to let it have MOT

I like the orange paint. I also noticed you have used new bolts that finish the job off. I have you made sure they are the correct tensile strength?

To be honest i don't know maybe 8.8. What is the strength in the originals. Old ones are so rusty and covered with rustprotection stuff so i can't see it of them.classicswede wrote:I like the orange paint. I also noticed you have used new bolts that finish the job off.
